Z IS FOR ZOO

For each letter of the A to Z, I'm going to give you a KEYWORD. You post in the comments a song with that word in the title. I will give you one to start (along with a video). If you like, you can go to YouTube and embed your video in the comments, so that readers can also listen to your song. No repeats and only post one song so that everyone can participate. If you're just brimming with songs, come back in a few days and lay it on me! If you want to see who else is participating in the A to Z click here.

Kids, it's hard to believe, but this is the FINISH LINE. We're at Z. Some keywords were harder than others, but overall you guys rocked the "keyword challenge." In fact, I loved this so much I just might do it again for the A to Z next year. What do you think????

Yesterday's keyword: Year(s). Here are the songs you thought of with Year(s) in the title:

Mary:Holding Back The Years by Simply Red and Reelin' In the Years by Steely Dan
Michele: New Years Day by U2 and In The Year 2525 by Zagar & Evans
Rosey: Light Years by Pearl Jam
Alex: Hollow Years by Dream Theater
Elsie: Wasted Years by Iron Maiden
Andrea: Pretty Good Year by Tori Amos
Diane: The Living Years by Mike & the Mechanics
Jeffrey: Still Crazy After All These Years by Paul Simon
Pinku-Sensei: Year of the Cat by Al Stewart
Ericka: It Was A Very Good Year by Frank Sinatra
Arlee: The Coldest Night of the Year by Bruce Cockburn
Stephen T. McCarthy: The Coldest Night of the Year by Starbuck
Arlee: The Coldest Night of the Year Nino Temple & April Stevens
Stephen T. McCarthy: The Coldest Night of the Year by The Very Most
Mike: One Year of Love by Queen
Larry: 100 Years by Five For Fighting
Birgit: Happy New Year by Abba
Debbie: A Year or a Day by Uriah Heep and 100,000 by KISS
D.G.: 2,000 Light Years from Home by The Rolling Stones
Mich: Five Years by David Bowie
Robin (yes, me again): All These Years by Sawyer Brown and 7 Years by Lukas Graham
If you can think of more songs from previous letters and WANT to post them now, feel free to go back and add them:)

It's a new day and a new letter!

What is the KEYWORD?

This is another tough letter. I'm giving you lots of latitude with this one. You can use the word zoo (specifically) or choose a song with an animal in the title, like this one...

I present to you....Monkey by George Michael.

You can comment with a song insert a video from YouTube by copy/pasting the code in the search bar. Thanks for playing along!

Special thanks to Arlee Bird and the A to Z team who make this possible!

  1. This is a great one. There are so many songs with animals in the title! So many!! Great way to end the A-Z Robin. This has been so much fun. Definitely do it again next year!

Since there are so many songs with animals in the title, I'm going with the first three that came to my mind. Do you mind if I do three??

    1. I just knew this is the song you would choose (if it were still available). So happy when I'm right:)

    2. GIRL WONDER ~
I half-expected that YOU would use this song right out of the chute, but I wanted to snag it if I could because one way or another I knew it wouldn't last long.

I happened to wake up at about 2AM and thought to check. Turned on my computer, saw, snagged, and went back to bed.

I couldn't think of another "zoo" song, so it was going to be this or the "animal route".

Throughout this entire game I've held myself to my own rule which was that I had to think of every song I used from out of my own mind, i.e., I wasn't allowed to look one up in my Billboard Top 40 book, Google one, or go browsing through my CD collection to find one.

There were a couple times when I thought of 3 or 4 songs but they were already taken, so I really had to rack my brain, but I always came up with sumpin'.

    3. You really are a cowboy, aren't you??? I think of a few things when I think "cowboy," but in this case I'm talking about the code. Every cowboy has one. It doesn't always make sense to the casual observer, but there are rules in there... always. And nothing worse than breaking them.

I know you don't like modern TV all that much. And this guy isn't a cowboy, but the character has a cowboy heart (I think).

    4. Yep, I'm a cowboy, but without a horse. However, I DO have that bicycle, ya know? Huffy 'GOOD VIBRATIONS' is my horse.

I'm a big believer in RULES #3 and 13. #40 does NOT apply to me because I am ALWAYS the guy "out to get" the other person - not the reverse. And #51 doesn't apply because of Rule #3.

    5. Never be unreachable??? hahaha. I know you meant, "Never believe what you're told. Double check."

I think they started the rules thing without any real understanding of how pervasive, and important, they would become. Fans keep up with these things. Notice that there are no doubles outside of the top ten. The writers got smarter:)

  3. Congratulations on making it to Z. Your theme was one of my favorites, but I'm always a sucker for music and this was fun.

I was trying to find the song "Mammoth" from a French rock group called Zoo whose album I bought in the 70's and still have my vinyl copy. They featured a good rock violinist and had a heavy jazz rock horn section. Doggone it, I couldn't find anything on YouTube or anywhere else by them, but I did find something by an L.A. band from the same era also called Zoo.
Psychedelia from the group Zoo "From a Camel's Hump"

Another psychedelic band from the 70's called String Driven Thing that featured a violin and whose vinyl album I still own had a song called "Circus" that mentions a bunch of animals so it was another song that quickly came to mind.

Here's "Circus" by String Driven Thing

I could keep going with animal songs, but I'd better stop and let others have a chance. I might come back for this one.

  6. This has been a great AtoZ. I've loved this theme. Loved finding out what other people had to offer. It was a real fight, but we did it. It's like we had the eye of the tiger.
Which reminds me, my offer for today's zoo.

  21. Since we're at the end of this and my offerings usually don't interfere with those of others, here are a couple more.

First one from The Magic Show, the only musical I actually saw on Broadway. I recall this excerpt also being presented on NBC's Today Show around 1976 or so. I still have the album on vinyl and it's a great one.

I've often mentioned one of my favorite bands 13th Floor Elevators. Here's their song "Monkey Island"--not particularly my favorite, but it's about the zoo.
