If you can think of more songs from previous letters and WANT to post
them now, feel free to go back and add them:)
It's a new day and a new letter!
What is the KEYWORD?
You can use variations, such as pleases, pleased, or pleasing.
If you're a fan of Soundtracks, Andrea over at Maybe it's just me... is doing her A to Z on them. Ironically, I think our posts have a possibility of colliding today. I first discovered this song on the Pretty In Pink soundtrack (notice it's also a "P"). I wore out that cassette tape. The last song on the soundtrack was Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want by The Smiths. The song is a bit blue, but then I tend to be a bit blue, too. So, it works out. As it turned out, about two decades later another movie decided to use this gem (500 Days of Summer). That is the movie featured in the clips set to the song *I still love* featured below. So... drum roll... I present to you.... Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want by The Smiths.
And, this one is for Birgit who loves dancing and movies and has tried valiantly to play along with my Song Game (and has done much better since she's started working her movie knowledge into her strategy here). This was not in the movie 500 Days of Summer, but it was intended to promote the movie... sort of. Anyway, it's awesome and I think she, and other lovers of dance, will like it. Sadly, there is NO connection to the letter "P."
You can comment with a song using or embed the video by copy/pasting the code in the search bar. Thanks for playing along!
Special thanks to Arlee Bird and the A to Z team who make this possible!

That Pink song is extremely twisted (as so many are), but that one takes it to new heights.... which made the Dave Loggins song super sweet in juxtaposition.
Deletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lK5zYI86wIw Baby, please don't go. Lightnin' Hopkins. I know THEM featuring Van Morrison did the song too, but I found this version poking around for that one, and I liked it. :)
ReplyDeleteThis song might make for a good BoTB, Rosey. I know I've heard it from one or more groups. Thanks!
DeleteI thought of the Battle of the Bands too. :)
DeletePlease Come Home for Christmas as performed by Jon Bon Jovi
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tgk9rhHOWfc
Shocking. Bon Jovi showing up here...
DeleteLOL! I, know, I am quite predictable when it comes to music. ;)
DeleteAaaaaaaah! Yes, of course that song was going to be my pick today from my soundtrack choice today. Thanks for the shout out! Let's see, I guess the next not so logical choice is Please Mister Please by Olivia Newton-John! ;) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3007OXu2dNc
ReplyDeleteI always like some OLJ.
DeleteNot my first choice, but there are no Rush or Dream Theater songs with please in the title. (Plenty of P songs - The Pass and Puppies on Acid come to mind.)

I can only imagine the outcry if the keyword had been "puppies." Maybe next year...

I love this video. She looks so happy. Maybe she was. I like to think that even people who are deeply unhappy get moments of joy.
Delete"Please Take Me Home" by Blink 182.

All of their songs sound so angry. Or is it just me?
DeletePlease Please Me by the Beatles:

Baby Please Don't Go by Muddy Waters:

This song was released in America and didn't do anything. Then it was released again. And now it's... doing something. Ah. That Paul is so cute, but he could use a speechwriter... ;)
DeletePlease by Staind- Aaron Lewis is the lead and he's gone solo. I couldnt find his acoustic version.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6fhgqviIOs
Oh and there's some language so....
DeleteNot heard this before, but I really like it. I even looked up the lyrics online. Wow. Someone really screwed him over. You really shouldn't do that to people who write songs, books, articles, etc. unless you want someone to call you out and rip you to shreds.

I never thought it was possible a man with a mullet could be good looking, but HOLY HAND GRENADES is the guy on the violin beautiful.
If this is the case, why am I not looking at this gorgeous specimen playing the violin??? Why, Mich, why????????

Delete"Please Release Me" by Englebert Humperdink. Don't you just love saying Englebert Humperdink? Think Tom Jones with longer sideburns. Sorry I can't post the video, but thanks for letting me play anyway.
ReplyDeleteJulie
Who doesn't love saying Englebert Humperdink? Everybody does!
DeleteI saw a live show of this performance once: Very Impressive
ReplyDeletePlease, Please, Please by James Brown
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQdMZ1qrn6k
James Brown was from Augusta, Georgia. I lived in Augusta for quite a while. My aunt and uncle lived there longer. My aunt had a good friend who worked for James Brown. This friend says he was fond of spontaneously doing his famous split right there in the office. One day he did it and couldn't get back up. That was the last time they saw him do the split. Now I'm wondering he said, "Please please please" while he was down (and out).
Delete"Please and Thank You" I can't believe I'm using a song from Barney the Dinosaur, but this catchy tune is probably the only good thing that came out of that show. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3CgwV3o7AM
ReplyDeleteI've had that song in my head all day because of this post.
DeleteDon't be offended, but I'm not listening to this one. I can't bear a song that will stick in my head like this one invariably will.
DeleteRobin, it is Liza. Please, Please Me, by the Beatles and Please Celebrate Me Home, by Kenny Loggins. Sorry, can't link.
ReplyDeleteSomeone else already gave up The Beatles song and Celebrate Me Home doesn't actually have "Please" in the title. BUT, I bet Michele will share The Beatles song with you. :)
DeleteAm I on time for this posting?
ReplyDeleteRolling Stones - Please Go Home

So long as you post before I go to bed and write up the list, you're good. In this case, you're good:)
DeleteI'm going to admit a guilty pleasure: I like K.C. and the Sunshine Band. There's something about their songs, their style--or maybe it just takes me back to a younger time. Anyway, I still like their song "Please Don't Go"

Guilty pleasures are the best kind. I'm about to post one below. We've all got 'em Lee. We've all got 'em.
Deleteexcellent- so many cool super duper talented people!
ReplyDeleteLee mentioned guilty pleasures in his comment. Here is one of mine. As an angsty teenager there wasn't much more appealing than The Violent Femmes. They plucked that painful string in my heart that is mostly discordant and unwilling to bend. Turns out they still do.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ef4qDrRULjI
YES! I love this song so much and I meant to come back and post it. So glad you did.
DeleteViolent Femmes used to be one of my favorite groups. I haven't heard anything by them in many years. Nice to hear again. I saw them in concert shortly after I moved to L.A. I thought they were great. My wife at the time went to the bathroom and fell asleep on a toilet. She was so out of it that I think she must have been on drugs at the time. It was kind of a farewell date for us anyway as she was in the process of leaving me at the time. This song would have been appropriate for me at the time I guess, but now looking back I'm better off for her having left.

Holli... I should've known that YOU like this band:)
DeleteArlee... It's funny how a song can take you back to a moment. This song. That moment. Even when a relationship breaking is best in the long run, while it's happening it sure does hurt.
Oh thank you for the shout out and yes I Love that video! I wish the old fashioned musical would come back because Zoe would be great in it. Levitt is pretty good but I can see she is better. Oh that makes me dream:) the song that pops into my head is Please, please make by the Beatles and Please Release me by Engelbert Humperdink (gotta love that name)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you came by and saw that video. I was beginning to worry that I'd have to remember to remind you. I'm not so good at that...
DeleteAnyway, don't give up hope on the old fashioned musical. Seems like everything old becomes new again.
I'm late and must have missed the cut-off, but I'll post anyway. ☺
