If you can think of more songs from previous letters and WANT to post
them now, feel free to go back and add them:)
It's a new day and a new letter!
What is the KEYWORD?
You can use variations. In this case, so long as your base word is under, you can be as creative as you like.
I present to you....Undermine by Hayden Panetierre featuring Charles Esten.
You can comment with a song or use the link in the search bar to embed the video. Thanks for playing along!
Special thanks to Arlee Bird and the A to Z team who make this possible!
My favorite song by Heart:

Mary
#AtoZChallenge U is for Underwood
Not heard this song before, but I liked it well enough to play it twice. :)
DeleteUnder My Thumb by the Rolling Stones

Got Me Under Pressure by ZZ Top

In that Rolling Stones video (live footage) everyone looks strung out to me. Mick always looks stoned (or on some other drug of choice), but the band looked spacey. One of the girls in the audience looked like she might drop right there on camera. In point of fact, most of the audience looked like they were under the influence of something.

Well, if you've ever heard a Dream Theater song, it was likely this one - Pull Me Under. (They don't perform it in concert though.)

Haven't heard this one before, either!
DeleteMy very favorite Zevon zong...

POSTSCRIPT:
DeleteIf you think the harmonies are pretty good on this, well... that's because you do get good harmonies when you use The Beach Boys!

I've listened to this once. I'll try to listen to it again before we move on to "V."
DeleteDo you like it so much because it's in California? Or am I missing something here?
There was an L.A. influence that ran through a number of Zevon's zongs, because that's where he lived.
DeleteBut I can really relate to the song on more levels than just the Southern California angle - although I do know some of the places he references in the song, and that's cool.
But lyrically, the song is brilliant.
One example: Think of the "Doomed Loser" mind-set of a guy who believes that if an earthquake dumped California into the sea, the motel he's staying in would remain standing until he paid his bill! Everything's out to get him personally.
That's hilarious, but also very insightful when it comes to the singer's outlook.
It's a great song, IMO, for several reasons.

There have been times when I've felt like the world was deliberately setting out to make my life miserable. (Maybe we've all felt that?) I did catch that line on the first listen. My migraine is acting up, so I'm going to lie down and come back to this later. I'll probably be better equipped without rat-a-tat-tat playing a painful beat in my head.

ReplyDeleteI forgot about this one. Good choice!
DeleteUnder the Boardwalk by The Drifters! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPEqRMVnZNU
ReplyDeleteI knew SOMEONE would use this one. It's such a happy song:)
DeleteOh man, I LOVE "Under Pressure" but someone claimed it already. Here's a flashback from my angsty teenage years: "Going Under" by Evanescence.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdhqVtpR2ts
Agreed. Very angsty. I wonder if the make-up people for this video now work on The Walking Dead. I see some similarities...:)
DeleteI've Got You Under My Skin by Chris Botti and Katharine McPhee

Let's try this again...

Well, that was pretty darn good. It's only in playing along with BoTB that I know who Chris Botti is (thanks FAE and StMc). I watch Scorpion, so I know who Katharine McPhee is. Two very talented people here.
DeleteI LOVE Chris Botti... He's so chilled and mellow. He is my go-to for chill out music.

Every time I see her, I think to myself, "She's a lot to take in." But maybe that's just me.
DeleteIt's not just you, Robin! ☺
DeleteHere's the first one that came to mind for me:
ReplyDelete"Over, Under, Sideways, Down" by the Yardbirds:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4DdAs0PddQ
I can't remember who (Michele maybe?) used this song for the word Over back on "O IS FOR OVER." But, it still works. Good song.
DeleteRed Hot Chili Peppers Under the Bridge...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwlogyj7nFE
ReplyDeleteI do believe that this is the song Stephen T. McCarthy used in his BoTB several months ago.
Deletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwlogyj7nFE
Yep. And they lost to DAVID & DAVID's 'WELCOME TO THE BOOMTOWN'.
DeleteThat was the first BOTB where participants were asked to submit two votes, one for Best Song and one for Best Video. D&D won both Battles.

Well, isn't this bittersweet?
DeleteHere's one I stumbled upon while browsing. Not bad!
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6jhpaX7fNQ
I remember hearing this song a while back. I even wrote down some of the lyrics (somewhere) with the intent of trying to find it later, but I lost the lyrics... And found it today:)

DeleteMeet Two Door Cinema Club, known for some reason among fans as "The Harry Potter Reunion Band."

Liked it!
DeleteI was hoping you'd use "Under" for your word today, and I have just the song for the word--"Under the Milky Way" by The Church. Just to mix things up, I'm posting the cover by Kill Hannah.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMu9Sn5UZ48
There are also covers by Sia and The Killers. Sia's was great. I gave up on The Killers' version after a few seconds.
I'm using Internet Explorer, so the YouTube links don't autoembed in my browser. That's how I missed Debbie D.'s posting of The Church's video of their original of this song. In addition, she didn't list the title or artist, so searching the page for "Milky" or "Church" didn't bring it up. I had to copy and paste her link into another tab to find out the song. Good thing 1.) it was her second song and 2.) I posted a version by another artist!
DeleteIn case my reasoning fails to convince our hostess to count my first offering as a non-duplicate, I'm sharing another song, "Underwaterboys" by Shriekback.

Thanks for giving me another option for Battle of the Bands. I'll make sure to check out the other covers, too. :)
DeleteThank you and my pleasure to help you with a second Battle of the Bands.
