them now, feel free to go back and add them:)
It's a new day and a new letter!
What is the KEYWORD?
You can use any word with summer as the root word. Like this:
I present to you....Summertime by Kenny Chesney.
You can comment with a song or embed the video by copy/pasting the code in the search bar. Thanks for playing along!
Special thanks to Arlee Bird and the A to Z team who make this possible!
Summer in the City by Lovin' Spoonful:

Michele, when I was a kid we had a stereo system with a record player, cassette player, and 8-track player. I imagine my parents bought it when cassettes were just becoming a "thing," records were still played, and 8 tracks were mostly on the way out (but not quite). Anyway, we still had a quite a few 8 tracks in our house (since we had a means to listen to them). My mom had a compilation one of "old" songs that I rather liked. This song was one of the songs on that 8 track. Whenever it would come on, I remember (quite vividly) grabbing up the hairbrush (aka microphone) to sing and dance around the room with the exuberance, if not talent, that only a young girl can (or will). Good memories.

Fond memories here, too. So 80s in every possible way.

ReplyDeleteKid Rock, All Summer Long
Seems like this was the song/album in which Kid Rock dipped his toe in the country pool. As someone who likes country, it was all good for me.
DeleteThe Boys of Summer by Don Henley
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_cpAS2zugU
I like this one a lot:)
DeleteJust a question: does it make you a little bit sad? I'm not sure why it has this effect on me, but it does...
To some degree it does. I agree with you, it's hard to explain.
DeleteGrease - Summer Nights

#AtoZChallenge S is for Streisand
I loved this soundtrack. Grease was the first movie I saw with my friends, and so it holds a special place in my heart. Stockard Channing really nailed it as Rizzo. I like her, particularly, in this song.
DeleteSummertime Sadness - Lana DelRay https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdrL3QxjyVw
ReplyDeleteSo glad you chose this one. I really like this song. Of course, it's very sad. Not sure what this says about me...
DeleteSo many great songs already taken.
ReplyDeleteWill Smith and the Fresh Prince - Summertime
https://youtu.be/Kr0tTbTbmVA
Well, this is... different. ha!
DeleteGood choice! I had forgot about this gem!
DeleteI really didn't think I'd find a video for this one! Shooting Star was one of my favorite 80's bands, and Summer Sun was the hit song from their Silent Scream album in 1985.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_W0ieoUVCVM
I've not heard this one before, but I really like it. I must say that the "hard" music is not my favorite, but this I really liked. Thanks for sharing!
DeleteWow-someone else who has heard of Shooting Star...
Delete"In Summer" from the movie Frozen.

Cute!
DeleteDirty Black Summer- Danzig

I had serious crush on him in the 90's. Their song Mother is their popular song played on air.
DeleteNot crazy about all that heavy guitar work, but then that's just me.
DeleteDoes he remind you just a little bit of Jim Morrison of The Doors?
I have to go with Maris above because my mind is blanking. Summer Nights from Grease. Makes me feel young to hear it.
ReplyDeleteSusan Says
Summer Nights is a classic.
DeleteGIRL WONDER, I was sure that it would be "S Is For Sun". So much for your psychic ability rubbing off on me, eh?
ReplyDeleteBut then YOUR OWN psychic ability may be waning too, because I'll bet you were certain I'd use a Beach Boys song, weren't ya?
Nope. Not this time. THIS is one of my very, very favorite songs about Summer, and oddly enough, it's titled...
SUMMER

Sun and summer are not that far away from one another. There are lots of "S" words, so I'm going to say that even though you missed the target, you hit the barn.
DeleteI actually have given up on predicting what song you will choose. Van Morisson has featured heavily. But, The Beach Boys does seem like a reasonable guess (now that you mention it). I hope someone else jumps on that.
As for this song (now that I've heard it), I can see why it's a favorite for you. It describes your life in the 70s in LA. In point of fact, you could've written it.
Well, there went MY first choice, lol!
DeleteExactly! It's pretty much a spot-on description of my Summer days, prior to becoming an adult and having to work through Summer rather than body-surf and girl-watch through it. (I even had a CB radio in my maroon, 1970 fastback Mustang... until the high nurse ran a stop sign, crashed into it and totaled it for me.)
DeleteI've been lucky in that so far every song I've wanted to use in this 'A To Z' Songfest Blogfest has still been available to me when I got here.
~ D-FensDogG
I saw this one coming from you, Stephen...
DeleteLC, I know what tomorrow's keyword is, and I know what song YOU will use... unless someone beats you to it.
Delete~ D-FensDogG
"Summer in the City" and "Summertime" were what immediately jumped into my mind, but since those were taken I had to think for a moment.
ReplyDeleteNext "Summer Breeze" by Seals and Crofts came to mind. This is a nice summer song.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MsW8rXPcnM0
LEE, I was hoping someone would use 'SUMMER BREEZE'. I love that one.
Delete~ D-FensDogG
I'm really glad to see it here, too. I really like this song! Who thinks of a lyric like, "Blowing through the jasmine in my mind?" Awesome!

DeleteLet me try that again...Led Zeppelin (Jimmy Page mainly) White Summer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eb_bTymOAyk
ReplyDeleteNever heard this, and not what I expected. So... a surprise. A summertime surprise.
DeleteMy first thought was that this song was from Porgy and Bess. Then I doubted myself, so I looked it up. Sure enough. It is. Whew.
ReplyDeleteI really liked this one. Thanks for posting!
An interesting blog hop would be top ten summer songs (from the season, not necessarily with the word in the title).
ReplyDeleteANyway, this was my first thought and I had no worries that it would be taken before I got to post...

As soon as this song began I knew why you liked it, "I've been married to my work..." hahaha. Perfect. I really this one, btw.
DeleteThis guy is (in my opinion) a great songwriter but never seemed to make the cut. Not sure if he's had others cover his stuff-sometimes that's all a songwriter needs to make a good living.
DeleteTo do list:
1) Write a song
2) Get it on the next Taylor Swift record
3) Retire

Eddie Cochran - Summertime Blues

I've loved this A to Z theme. You guys have really helped me with Battle of the Bands. Whoo-ey!
DeleteI knew this one was coming....I first heard it via The Who's cover on the Live At Leeds album.
DeleteOne of my favourite pieces is Summertime (George Gershwin) sung by Leontyne Price. It's so beautiful. I read your instructions on how to imbed a video but it's not reaching my brain
ReplyDeleteI think you're making this too hard. You don't use the Share/Embed function. Instead you just copy the code in the search bar once you're in YouTube and your song is playing.

Deftones - "My Own Summer"
ReplyDeletehttps://youtu.be/XOzs1FehYOA
One of my favourite songs, and one of my fav music videos of all time.
I'm not sure how you manage to tap into my irrational fears... but sharks is one of them. I blame that one on the movie Jaws. Realistically, I know that the likelihood of being bitten by a shark... not realistic. Particularly now that I refuse to venture farther into the ocean than my ankles (again, due to irrational fear of sharks). But, this is NOT my favorite video. In fact, as soon as I saw the blood in the water, I knew it was going to give me nightmares. So, thanks, I guess;)
DeleteOn the funny side, have you ever heard Bill Engvall's Here's Your Sign? One of the bits includes a fellow with a "shark bite suit." Hilarious stuffs.
My sister is so afraid of sharks, she won't even go in a bathtub. No swimming pools either. And the beach? She won't even venture onto the sand.
DeleteNaturally, the rest of us have been torturing her with this for years.
"In the Summertime" by Mungo Jerry, of course!

Haven't heard this in forever. What a fun song!
DeleteMemories! ☺
DeleteAs promised, attempt #3:
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T60uyt6dMuk
This word wouldn't have been complete without one Beach Boys song, so there is that:)
DeleteI'm not too late, am I? I just barely got home, but here you go.
ReplyDeleteFun story: this guy opened for a fairly big band I was seeing a while back. I actually enjoyed his set a lot more than the headliner, so after the show I went up to him and told him he was awesome and asked for a signed copy of his CD. He was really surprised. He was like, really? You really liked it? You actually want me to sign it? I guess he wasn't used to hearing praise. It was oddly humble of him. Cool guy and great musician.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DdakFnM4eOQ
You know what, since I'm late, here's another... because summer always makes me feel like dancing.
Deletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w42OiUXzY44
All things considered, I liked the Canon Blue song better. I'm particularly partial to the line "I won't make you tired." That resonated with me. I've been considering diving back into the dating pool, and yet... Most people make me really tired. Just exhausted really. I suppose it's because they have expectations and lives and they're trying to fit someone new into theirs. But, worse than that, it's the emotional stuff that takes a physical toll. So, I'd really like to meet someone who doesn't make me tired. Maybe that would be a sign that it's worth pursuing.
DeleteThis Summer. You really dance to that? Do you do that standing still dancing accompanied by a bounce? I'm trying to picture it. That was a really mellow song to my way of thinking... ;)
Canon Blue writes some great lyrics, and I love that line too. Hell, there are days my wife makes me tired as hell, and I'm sure vice versa. Funny how that works.
DeleteSo you know, this is what happens when I spend all day out and then come home and post something last minute while tired. I posted the original, not the remix, which I feel is way better. And, you know, danceable. I imagine the only people that dance to the original are emo and just kind of sway side to side awkwardly while waiting for death, or whatever emos do.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPAhDNSALeg
Okay, this makes much more sense. I can actually see someone picking up their feet when this one comes on... as opposed to swaying to the beat, waiting for death to make a pick-up.
DeleteSee what happens? When I arrive late, all the great songs are taken. But I have a favorite version of Sly and the Family Stone's Hot Fun in the Summertime...it's part of Pee Wee Herman's medley...you know that is the kinda gal I am, right?
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hlieo6mM7rk
That was pretty horrible. Not saying YOU'RE horrible, but the song.... yikes.
DeleteAnyway, I'm just glad to see you here. So long as you show up, you can post the absolute worst songs... and I'm still happy.
It was a very good year. ☺
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9f06QZCVUHg
I really like this song. As for it being a good year, I guess it was. I was a year old. Awesome!
