I need HELP with a decision!!!

This is not a reason to skip over my post from earlier today, by the way.... just sayin'. However, I am at a loss. I have decided to purchase the Domain Name for My Idea. This all starts with a website. I thought that I had this figured out. Well, I did until I saw the price tag on the name I wanted. Gulp. That was not happening. BeautifulDay.org is 1288.00/yr. That is just slightly out of my price range. However, I can get BeautifulDay.co for 29.99/yr. It isn't a .net, a .org, or a .com. I am not sure that a .co sounds very professional.

Back in 2008, I had tinkered with the name BudToBloom.org, but I thought that it sounded like a florist. Of course, my theory is taking a person from the bottom, in terms of their health, and helping them blossom into a healthy human being capable of stepping back into the world. I knew all along that the website was only the start. I just hadn't figured out the part about the houses yet. Or Phase 3, which I haven't even shared with you yet. Yeah, I have lots of plans. So, the deal is that BudToBloom.org is available for 14.99/yr.

What do you think sounds more like a website that is going to start out with listings for doctors that listen, etc. Then we are going to build houses for sick people. And I am really hoping that before we really get going that we are non-profit organization. Given all of that information, which domain name should I buy? This is the time to share your opinion.

  1. I would reserve the .co just to have it; you can always change your mind later and let it go. But you'll regret it if you don't take it while you can. And while "Bud to Bloom" sounds really lovely and conveys the message to those in the know, the masses will indeed think it's a greenhouse rather than a house to nurture people ....

  2. WOW - that's a tough one. Why the different prices? I like Bud to Bloom..

  3. My gut is agreeing with you. I think that you can actually move your site from one domain to another. I also think that the "rules" might change once I get established as a non-profit organization. In other words, I am convinced that they would charge a non-profit organization that exhorbitant fee for a domain name. Anyway, even if they did, once I actually had money coming in, I could afford to change the domain name from a .co to a .org if I felt like it was really that important.

  4. In this day and age, with free websites and domain names available everywhere, I wouldn't pay for a domain name at all. Only my opinion. You can go to freewebs and probably get "Beautiful day." I know the literary journal that I'm the blog editor for is hosted on there and it's a pretty flexible site. Also I'd check out Go Daddy and other domain sites. I'd just really hesitate to pay for a name at this point maturation of the Internet. I'd pay for a lot of stuff, like website development, google search maximization, etc., but it just seems to me that $1288 per year, especially when you're starting out, is too much.

  5. @Nicole ~ The reason I like Beautiful Day is because of the houses. The theme is really every day is a beautiful day to save a life. And the houses would be called Beautiful Day Houses. The Bud to Bloom theme just doesn't work as well over all with the overall plan. And I am afraid that people will think it is florist site. Beautiful Day resonates with me. I just didn't like the .co, but I don't know much about the internet. Does a site that ends in .co sound unimpressive or does it not make a difference? And, like I said, I think that I can change it to .org later (if the name isn't taken) when I have the money.

  6. @Linda ~ I found all of this information at GoDaddy.com. You have to do a search of domain names and they give you a price. Those were the prices they gave me.

  7. do you have to do this now? Maybe you should hold out for an idea/website you feel really 100 percent good about. I don't know how all that links up with non profits,..I would think a non profit would be more like and org but I really don't know. I do think the .co would be confusing to people searching etc...I know you want to move forward and I want that for you too, but you don't seem sold on either and the one you want it too expensive. you will get another idea...just think on it...you are brillant.

  8. go the co route. I like the beautiful day name. tried to comment on your last post. I wasn't in your dream or anything, but I think the fact that the room got cold and you pulled out a blanket to cover yourself was a rational act. when you struggled out of it to grab an illusion. and it was an illusion. you threw away the blanket to grab an illusion.
that was my take, I could be wrong.

  9. I agree with Carol. Think of yourself. Would you give money to an organisation you felt was unprofessional or you were uncertain about? Perhaps you can mail letters and find sponsors.(Oprah Winfrey maybe?)Have you researched enough about how others have started so that you know the ropes?

Your vision is indeed beautiful. Keep it in focus and it will come.

Have a beautiful day! Kisses to ya!

  10. okay...beautiful day sounds like a name of a website of some cult (the sect? what's the word...anyway). Or better yet - like something that has a lot to do with holidays. so I think it's not the best choice since it's quite misleading. or, if not misleading - it says nothing about Your Idea. it gives absolutely no hint. besides, why do you have to chose only between these two names? (or I totally misunderstood this post).

  11. Here's a totally different idea. What about (a place to bloom.com) or .net? You are offering an opportunity for the sick to have a place to bloom and grow and ties in with your original thought of Buds to Bloom. I searched on GoDaddy and the domain is available for $11.99 a year. They also have a .info which you get for free with the purchase of the .com. Just a thought!

  12. oooh or you could get the same with a .net for only $6.99 a year. They are having a sale right now that saves you $8.00 on the price.

  13. A beautiful Day.co sounds good although Coffee offers up a good alternative.

  14. I'm going to respond to your comment on my blog here (I don't know why. no reason I guess). what you don't understand, or don't know actually, is that even IF I am granted a visa (there's a small probability, because of many things, but theoretically there is such a possibility), then this visa is going to be for 2 months. this is why I sort of hate your country (sorry! but you know what I mean). it's because you (or your goverment, actually) think that going to States and steal your jobs is all we in Poland here dream about. standard procedure is granting people 2 months visa. nice, right? *aghr, and now I'm angry. as always when I think about visa-stuff*
