Love Is In The Air ~ Some Of YOUR Favorites

I am still posting Love Is In The Air clips until Valentine's Day. Yep. If you're new to this business, let me tell you how it all started...

Charity Bradford, one of the contributors to the blog Unicorn Bell, posted THIS asking for people to contribute their favorite romantic scenes from movies and TV. You simply shouldn't challenge a YouTube junkie to come up with this sort of stuff. I spent the next few HOURS looking for footage. Yes, you read that right. Hours.

I am tagging all of these Love Is In The Air and you can go back to my January 18 post to watch any that you missed.

Lois and Clark (Smallville) and Some Kind of Wonderful

Back at the beginning of this thing I asked YOU to share what you think are the most romantic moments on the big and small screen. Today, I am going to share some of YOUR FAVORITES! Sit back and enjoy. Happy Saturday everyone!!!!

For those of you who missed that 80s movie, it is a classic. When Harry Met Sally. It has everything. Humor. Friendship. The Sad. The Happy. And the Romantic. You get it all with this one!  Thanks Robyn!!!

The Way We Were. I can only speak to my own experience with this movie. But it was sad sad sad. I watched it for the first time on HBO back when I was in junior high school. I think it was the first time I realized that loving someone wasn't always enough. These two loved each other like crazy but they lived in different worlds with different value systems and it was not going to work. Period. I remember crying so hard my nose went numb. Mind you, the movie finished right about dinner time. My mom kept saying to me, "Stop that crying. We are trying to eat here."

I kept saying, "But it's just so sad." Waaaah.

They she says, "Well, I told you it was going to be sad. You shouldn't have watched it."

My response: "But it was just so good."

Unfortunately, one of those dinners I'll never forget. And it was all true. It was one of the saddest things I'd ever seen. And it was just so good.

Thank you Julie!!!

Tune in tomorrow for more of your favorites! And if you have a favorite romantic scene that you haven't shared yet let me know in the comments!!!

Did you like When Harry Met Sally? The Way We Were?

  1. When Harry Met Sally is a fun movie. One of the best romantic comedies out there. If I didn't name my favorite, it's The Princess Bride.

  2. Robin - will you visit this site and let me know if it interests you? Emily Crawford-Margison is my niece and you remind me of her.

  6. Oh, Robin, you're sweet. Thank you for pointing me back over here. Can't believe I missed this in the first place. Yes, that is the best romantic scene in the history of romantic scenes. I feel all warm and fuzzy now. Thank you for posting it. It was great to watch it again.

  8. ROBIN ~
'When Harry Met Sally' is a great movie. Another one of my favorite scenes from that one is where Harry and Sally are dissecting the movie 'Casablanca' during a phone conversation.

Now... knowing my strongly held political beliefs, this is probably going to shock you but... I also really, really like the movie 'The Way We Were' (terrific song, too). Your story about crying at the dinner table is funny. But you're right, that is a sad, Sad, SAD movie. The scene you showed here is really something, but it gets even sadder when just after this (the scene cuts off too short) we get that long-range aerial shot of the two of them as Redford starts walking away while Streisand goes back to her protesting. That is when the sadness of it really hits me, because we see the separation that will remain from then on.

Bet you're surprised I like that movie so much, huh? Actually, it surprises me TOO!

Three of my all-time, all-time, all-time favorite romance movies are these:

Those first two can leave me in tears, for different reasons (sadness and joy).

If you’ve not seen any of these, I most strenuously urge that you do. I can’t imagine any woman who wouldn’t love all three.

    1. I agree about the Casablanca breakdown in When Harry Met Sally. I do believe that also includes the conversation about High Maintenance vs. Low Maintenance Women, which is a classic.
I agree about the scene being cut off too soon in The Way We Were clip. Unfortunately, it was the ONLY choice on YouTube.
I haven't seen any of these movies. First, Diane Lane is SO YOUNG. I had no idea she started acting as a child. Heaven Can Wait... was the Warren Beatty film of the same name a remake of this one?

    2. No, the Warren Beatty movie just happens to have the same title, but it's an entirely different story. I like the Beatty 'Heaven Can Wait' too! A really good movie that I've seen several times.

But I like the Gene Tierney 'Heaven Can Wait' better, and even own the DVD. Tierney is simply off-the-charts gorgeous in 'Heaven Can Wait' - the most beautiful woman God ever created! And the movie is a real charmer with some classic comedy bits in it. It also includes my all-time favorite character actor, Charles Coburn, so for me, it's a "Can't Miss" movie!

I was just working on my next 'Battle Of The Bands' installment. I'm really looking forward to this one because I've got a truly great song for it. In fact, I may have to do another 3-way Battle because I simply can't seem to narrow it down to 2 versions. All 3 are quite different and really excellent!

      Yak Later...

  9. I'm sorry that I didn't see this sooner. I love everything about The Way We Were, and I can only watch it every few years, because it still makes me fall apart. It's funny how you still remember your first reaction to the movie. I think our mom's would get along well! When Harry Met Sally was a great romantic comedy that appealed to both men and women. Thanks Robin!
