HERE'S TO YOU THURSDAY

Hello friends!

Before I kick off the festivities, I want to remind you that you can STILL vote in Battle of the Bands. I will post the results this Saturday, the 22nd, so hop on over, take a listen, and VOTE. The song for this battle is SEA OF LOVE, which I think most everyone has heard at one time or another.

I am participating in the A to Z Challenge this year (see Sidebar with badge). If you haven't signed up, but want to join the challenge, just click on the badge. It will take you straight to the sign-up linky list. Why am I telling you this now? Well... the A to Z posts every day, except Sunday, during April. So that means that there will not be any HERE'S TO YOU posts during April. I know. I am sad, too. But, it really is all a person can do to keep up with the challenge. HERE'S TO YOU will be back in May! I also won't be participating in Battle of the Bands during April. It will also be back in May! April will be strictly A to Z.

Without further ado, drum roll please.

It is Thursday and that means it is HERE'S TO YOU day!  All in all, the best day of the week here on YOUR DAILY DOSE. Why? Because it's a celebration for YOU.

If you don't know what this HERE'S TO YOU stuff is about, let me explain.  This is a weekly event landing typically on Thursdays.  The best (or worst) part is that I am not going to explain why I chose "whatever" footage for each of you. If, you watch your footage and are scratching your head at the end, well that means I didn't do a very good job. However, all is not lost. You can email me at rarichards68@gmail.com and ask me what I was thinking when I chose that particular piece of footage off of youtube and connected it to you. And then I will tell you. Then I will start sending up prayers that I haven't offended the crap out of whoever is on the receiving end of that email....lol. Because, honestly, I will tell you right now... I admire all of you enormously so I really hope that doesn't happen.

Also, this is not an exclusive venture by any means. I hope that you will take the time to watch ALL of the footage because I don't pick bad footage:-) I also hope that you might check out the blog of the person I dedicated the footage to because they are pretty darn awesome. If you haven't figured this out yet... I pick the footage based on something that you've written or something that I've gleaned from your personality. Think on that for a while... If you are having trouble watching the entire video (meaning it is being cut off on one side), click on it a couple of times and it will take you straight over to youtube. If you click on the four squares at the bottom corner of the video, it will enlarge it to fill your screen. The escape key will bring it back to normal size. The back arrow will bring you back to my page.

Now, let's get this PARTY STARTED!!!!

  1. Love that Kevin Bacon clip! And Kenny Chesney is always a treat :)

  2. Welcome Back Kotter! I dug that show when I was a teen.

  3. I think you found the right spin on the Geography of Men and Women that Marilyn sent. Haha. Haven't thought of Kotter in years. I used to like their theme song. The free gun zone was a laugh. Do men really ever react like that when women have babies? Mine never did. But I suppose it depends on the husands astrologica chart. The second one, nawww ... just a draggy-ass-ole-tune.
Middle of the week.... let's see, were we going forward or backward? (a little old age humor)

    1. I liked that theme song too (Kotter) but even more, I thought Vinnie Barbarino was so so soooooo cute (showing my age w/that one). :)

  4. Carol ~ I laugh every time I watch that 80s Awareness clip. Ha!

Alex ~ I used to watch WBK, too.

Manzanita ~ I am glad you appreciated the connection to your post. You didn't like the Nickel Creek song? Hmm. I really love that one. Goes to show that different strokes for different folks will always apply.

  5. ROBIN ~
Oh my gosh! That was just about perfect; it totally nailed down the ridiculousness of that "No Fireams Allowed" sign I had seen in the liquor store window. And here I thought I was making a unique point.

How did you ever find that? Were you already aware of that little video clip even BEFORE you read my post? Or did you stumble on it later, while looking for something you could use to illustrate the point I was hammering home to that liquor store clerk?

Anyway, that was perfect... and it was also quite funny. Really good work on this one. (I had to watch the entire thing twice because it was so humorous and so spot-on.)

    Thanks, Robin!

  6. LOL, it has been so long since I heard Welcome Back, Kotter. Memories.

  7. Stephen ~ I watched that particular video for the first time about a year ago... I think. Anyway, I thought of it when I was reading your story. It IS perfect, no???? Every time I watch it again, I end up watching it twice, so I am right there with you on that!

Karen ~ When I am reading, if a clip or song or comedy bit comes to mind, I usually take a minute to pop over to YouTube and see if I can find it. The bigger problem can be that I save what I find into my favorites and then I can't remember who wrote the blog. That is the worst. I really should write these things down, but I am certain, at the time, that I will remember.

Susan ~ I miss TV shows with catchy theme songs.

Had I already known about that "Gun Free Zone" video, without question I would have posted it on my blog right alongside that "No Firearms Allowed" segment. That was simply terrific!

  9. It was a Boo Radley double feature with both of JJ's stories! Great clip from To Kill A Mockingbird! I also loved Welcome Back Kotter when I was in high school.

  10. Hi Robin,

Ever so sorry, but, once again, my computer just cannot handle your site when you have so many videos on it. I wish I could watch them. However, I am always a big admirer of just how perceptive you are with your selections. That would be the times when I could actually get the videos to work.

As for the A to Z! Arggghhhhh!!!!

    Take care, my dear friend.

    Gary :)

  11. I seem to have the same problem as Gary, but I did finally get to watch the video you dedicated to me. How appropriate to my "Can't Wait" post!

I'm not as old as the old guy on the video, but there sure are times when I feel like it. Love the song. Very pretty tune and a good message. So true.

I will be incorporating my BOTB posts into my A to Z posts. It will be interesting to see how many votes I get on those. The first day might be pretty good as I usually get a lot of visits on that first day.

  12. I like Kevin Bacon. I remember looking up numbers in the white pages. My MIL came over and asked me for the phone book. I told her we recycled it. She almost had a cow. :)

  13. You nailed it! I've never heard that song before. It is stunning. Will be back later today to see more clips and perhaps comment again. I actually thought I might appear here this week, although to tell the truth, I thought you might post Rocket Man. :)

  14. Stephen ~ If you haven't done it already, save it to your favorites. I have NO DOUBT that another variation on this topic will emerge someday on your blog. Use it then:)

Julie ~ I am really enjoying JJ's stories. Like you, when I read that first one I immediately thought of To Kill A Mockingbird. He hasn't dropped in yet, but I hope he likes it!!!

Gary ~ Well, this trouble just goes on an on, my friend. And this was another big week with lots of videos. I appreciate you simply coming by... even if you don't watch.

Arlee ~ I am glad you finally got YOUR video to play. Yes, it was perfect fit for your Can't Wait post. The message in the lyrics accentuated your points better than I could have. I really like the chorus in that song. The older you get the more it feels that time passes just like that. I mean, wasn't it just yesterday that I was playing games in the street with my friends?

Rosey ~ When we moved to back to FL we didn't have a phone book for quite a while. It was actually very difficult. Not all numbers are on the internet. And you really need the Yellow Pages if you don't know the specifics of a business. I think I might have been like your MIL after the recent months. I treasure the darn phone book like it's gold.

Liza ~ I have been hoping you'd post something for A LONG TIME that I could put a clip to and I jumped up and down in my chair when you wrote that meandering post that eventually brought us to lighthouses. BINGO! WHAM! The fact that you had a feeling that you might be here this week just shows that you are allowing your own psychic intuitiveness to flourish a bit. Funny, but I didn't even think of Rocket Man, but that is only because as soon as you started talking about lighthouses and keepers of lighthouses, I thought of THIS SONG. I love it. It is so haunting and the life so hard of someone who keeps the light on. When I saw the video (and the gorgeous background) I knew that you would like it on many levels. Have a fantastic weekend, my friend.

  15. Hahaha I remember that Kevin Bacon movie, laughed so much at that scene. Can perfectly imagine Brandon. Good one, Robin!

  16. I love your creativity Robin. You spend some time with these and it shows. Enjoyed the clips.

Due to some major reconstruction to the shoulder surgery, I won't be around for much of A-Z. I'll try to catch up with posts as I can. Be fun to see what yours is.

  17. "You couldn't even skateboard to a Blockbuster without being nuked." I played that three times.

  18. And...she's back. I can't believe how young Kevin Bacon and Elizabeth McGovern look. (Off she goes to rustle up some pictures from the 1980's.) Well, yeah, I guess I do. Oh, and now I have to put TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD onto my re-read list. Not a hardship. It is one of my favorite books. Imagine John Travolta as Vinnie Babarino then...sigh. Great job as always. Before I go, I'm listening to the Lighthouse Tail again....

  19. Hi Robin .. glad your'e joining the A-Z .. I'll catch you along the way ... I only recognise Kevin Bacon as he's doing an ad here that runs at the cinema .. may do on tv too, but I don't usually watch that sort of telly! Cheers Hilary

  20. Wow, this was awesome. First off, that Gun Free Zone clip is not only hilarious but it encompasses McCarthy's blog bit to a T. Well done.

Also, I still don't understand what generation I am. I'm too young to be a Gen Xer, but too old to be a millennial. What the hell am I?

(And for the record, I remember all of that goodness Kevin Bacon was talking about. Man, if I called a girl and her mom answered, I'd just hang up. Thank God for no caller ID back then, huh?)

    ReplyDelete
  21. Haha! Yeah. We all got nuked in the eighties. It wasn't safe to go outside to walk the dog. Terrible times they were!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Aaaah the eighties... I was there from A to Z and in spite of the annoying nukes pointing at us, I kind of miss those days, Robin. Music wasn't something you'd just download for free and toss it away after a couple of minutes. You had to go and buy it or tape it, which took a lot of time so you'd appreciate it. Kevin Bacon and the eighties.... a perfect match.

  23. Al ~ She's Having A Baby is one of my FAVORITE movies. I really couldn't tell you how many times I watched it. Back in the 80s... at least 30. There was a time when I knew all of the lines to it. I hope Brandon appreciates it, too. I think I will give him a heads up that it is here.

Sia ~ I will miss these bits during the A to Z. I am sorry to hear about your shoulder surgery. I hope that it all turns out well and you have full usage soon.

Briane P ~ I know. Funny, funny, stuff. I also liked, "You will never know the comfort of parachute pants." Hahahaha.

Liza ~ Funny thing that you mention putting To Kill A Mockingbird back on your to be re-read list. I thought the same thing when I found this clip!

Hilary ~ Yes, he is in a lot of movies. You've heard of the Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, right? Or is it seven? Or five? I am not sure. But you get the idea.

ABFTS ~ Did you see Stephen's response? He liked it just a *little bit.* All of these generation titles confuse me. I think that since I grew up in the 80s, I am Generation X, which doesn't thrill me. Generation X is a bit of a disappointment, if you ask me. That was a funny bit... I talked to her mom for twenty minutes, and then if she said "No" when I asked her to SBarrro, I couldn't just swipe that pain away.... Ha!

Sherry ~ I know. Hilarious, right???

Blue ~ It's like the Joni Mitchell song Big Yellow Taxi. "Don't it always seem to go... that you don't know what you got 'til it's gone. They paved paradise and put up a parking lot."

    ReplyDelete
  24. Ha! Thanks for the Welcome Back!!! Awesome. I used to watch that show all the time. And I'd seen that Kevin Bacon clip too. So funny. :))

I have SO much to read! I am SO far behind!!!

You are the hardest working person in BlogLand, Robin!!!

  26. Robin: One of my favorites! I'm sorry I did not see it earlier, but we were away. I appreciate the tribute.

  27. Sorry it has taken me so long to get over here. I am pretty much a diaper changing, baby feeding zombie at the moment. I laughed at the vid that was very close to my experience. lol.

  28. L.G. ~ It's good to have you back!

Red Shoe's ~ Yes. I am glad you noticed;)

JJ ~ No worries. I am just glad you liked it.

Brandon ~ Yikes. That sounds scary. So glad that you enjoyed it!
