Roasting the Bird

On his main blog, “Tossing It Out,” Lee describes himself, in part, “as a writer, speaker, entertainer, music lover, collector, husband, father, grandfather, friend, traveler, seeker of truth and wisdom.” He majored in English while at the University of Tennessee, has blogged since 2008, and currently has six blogs that delve into his diverse mind. Hosted again by Mark Koopmans, Morgan Shamy, David Powers King, Stephen Tremp and The Ninja Captain himself, CheersFest 2.0 will go LIVE! Dec. 9, 2013.

Let the Roasting Begin!
First up, 4 questions about Arlee...

1)  Why did Lee come up with the A-Z Challenge?  The idea came to him while listening to ABC by The Jackson Five on his turntable.

2)  If someone dreams about being a juggler, what does it mean? That person has big fast hands.

3) Is a post by Mr. Bird worth two in the bush? I've not read any posts in his bush. But, Arlee knows how to Toss It Out.

4) Who could play Lee in a documentary? (Living or dead.)  Christian Bale.  See the photos for comparison.

In +/- 100 words, (excluding the title) write flash fiction using all these prompts: · Bird · Juggler · Challenge · Brown Jacket · Tossing

5 year old Lee dreamt that a bird landed on his shoulder.

It said, "Join the circus as a juggler. You'll have the grandest adventures."

Lee pondered this strange message many times over the years.

He began to earnestly practice juggling and was shocked by the ease of tossing multiple objects at once.

When he turned 18, he joined the circus.

After five years of donning the brown jacket and bow-tie for his act, he realized that he found more than adventure. He was home.

  1. So funny. Where did you get that picture of Bale, because it really fit perfectly. Hoorah for Lee.

  2. The Christian Bale pic is interesting. I can go with that.

I like The Christmas Story reference -- very appropriate to the season and one of my favorite movies.

  3. I also got a kick out of the Christian Bale photo! Great flash fiction story too!

  4. Yes, the photo comparison is an excellent touch. Nicely done, Robin.

  5. Ha,ha,ha! Love the Chrustian Bale comparison.

  6. He does look like Christian Bale! Uncanny...
    Thanks for participating in CheersFest!

  7. That's a pretty good match between Bale and Arlee. :)

  8. So when Christian loses the weight after the movie, will Lee have to go on a diet?

  9. Cheers to Arlee! Think I'll need to pick up some circus tickets as a Christmas present now...

  10. Susan ~ It's him in his new movie, The Hustle.

Arlee ~ You'll poke your eye out. Love that bit. Congrats to you on your roasting!

Julie ~ Thanks. Haven't written much flash fiction. It was fun.

Robyn ~ I think the Bale photo made this post.

    FAE ~ :)

    Alex ~ It was fun!

    L.G. ~ Yes!

    Wendy ~ Hmmm. Good question.

M.J. ~ Take pictures of the juggler!

  11. At least he doesn't make us sing that Jackson Five song.

  12. A little bird told the Big Bird, that's believable. And Christian Bale could play young Lee very well!

  13. You pulled the bird out of the oven a day early...

  14. "You'll poke your eye out, kid!"

Just watched it again for the umpteenth time a few nights ago. As always, I was howling with tears of laughter rolling down my face during the "Department Store Santa Scene" - funniest 5 minutes in motion picture history.

I like the tenderness of your flash fiction piece, Robin. Instead of going for the throat, you went for the heart at the end.

  17. Diane ~ You make an excellent point!

D.G ~ Arlee is Big Bird. Hahahaha.

LC ~ I did. I am on vacation this week and I knew my computer time would be limited.

Stephen ~ I love A Christmas Story, too. I haven't seen it yet this year:( I hope Arlee appreciates the "gentleness of this roasting."

Kimberly ~ Great roast post. hahaha. So similar to pot roast, but not...

    J.L. ~ Yay! Success.

  18. I can't believe that is Christian Bale! Crazy!!! And loved all of this, Robin. Very entertaining and fun. Thanks so much for participating--Lee rocks!

  19. Your answer to #3 made me laugh. And that's an awesome resemblance to Arlee you've found!

  20. Sorry I'm about a day late, but I'm still catching up on posts from the Cheer's fest links. I am still laughing at the questions and and your answers. Enjoyed reading

  21. Whoa, the resemblance to Christian Bale is uncanny!

  22. Leave it to you, Robin...... you have it all figured out.
I'll repeat what everyone else said..... that photo is striking.
