I don't know this place.

Simon & Garfunkel started looking for America back in the '60s.  They woke up and it felt different, smelled different, looked different, and they got on the bus to find it.  There was something in the air.  They didn't know this place.  And they had this revelation that they weren't the only ones.  A cultural shift was happening.  Their America was disappearing.  And now it is totally gone.  I'm with these guys.  I don't know this place.  But, I am beginning to see how it happened.   Do you see the puzzle pieces?  This is a gradual breakdown decades in the making.  But, I repeat: I don't know this place. This isn't MY America.  I only wish I could hop a bus, buy a ticket, and get to where I want to go.  My America.

"As in geology, so in social institutions, we may discover the causes of all past changes in the present invariable order of society." ~Henry David Thoreau

  1. I hope the '60s radicals are happy with the nation they built. Their followers will be the first to wonder why when it all collapses.

    1. Honestly, I don't think they will follow the correlation. It has taken me a long time to follow your line of reasoning. I get it, but it has taken me a lot of reading and pondering what you have been saying to see the parallels. You have pointed out a huge a cultural shift that has happened in the family, courts (laws), and taken years to play out in society. Honestly, I don't think that they would ever grasp it.

  2. America exists still...in the small pockets that don't get reported by sensationalist media. It exists every day in those who get up and do good, and are never mentioned, never reported in the press. The America we love is all around us...we MUST keep our eyes open to that which is good. Otherwise, we all lose.

    1. I love your optimism, Liza. I am not doubting the goodness within people. I am doubting the goodness within Government. They are taking away our freedoms so subtly but surely that we are not noticing. Like magicians. And those pockets of good people that you mentioned... well, they will suffer the most. WE will suffer the most. And there will be no bus, no train, no plane.

There is always good within the human heart EVEN when EVIL reigns. Just look at Anne Frank. But I don't want to be hiding in my house scribbling in my journal writing about how good I believe that people are still CAPABLE of being while MADNESS reigns. Do I think that will happen tomorrow, next week, next year? Probably not. But in my lifetime? Yeah, I think so. We are on a bad road.

In the meantime, I pray every day. I love my friends, my family, and am kind to people I don't even know. I try very hard to be a part of that pocket you are talking about who do good. Losing our humanity is one of the worst things that can happen to anyone.

  3. I have kind of holed up and concentrated on work, as you know. Not sure what to do, really. Other than to take care of my own...
