If you missed the photo of my wrecked car, here it is:
This is the car I just bought. It's so pretty!
I've been fooling with this since 2/28 (day of accident). Life is moving at the speed of light. Or is sound faster? Whichever one is faster, that's the rate at which we're going here. I can't believe it's time for Battle of the Bands. Again.
I'm not prepared with a soundtrack story for you today. Sorry. But, I will tell you that a couple of battles back Jeffrey Scott posted a Sonny and Cher song on his battle (I Got You, Babe). That took me way back to my childhood, because I had several Sonny and Cher albums. My mom was an avid garage seller, so even though it was the 70s, she bought many records for my turntable from the 50s and 60s. I planned to link a song to Jeffrey on his battle of a Sonny and Cher song that I particularly liked until I saw on YouTube that it was a cover.
And a new Battle of the Bands idea was born.
The song is called Leave Me Be. I think The Zombies recorded this song first, and then Sonny and Cher covered it. So, I'll load it for you that way.
Take it away, Zombies...
And that brings us to the cover by Sonny and Cher...
Please vote for the version of this song you prefer. If you want to get into the Ins and Outs of why you like one better than the other... I LOVE long comments!

Have to go with the Zombies on this one. Do not like Sonny's voice in that particular recording.
ReplyDeleteNice new car. That looks like something my wife wants--we'll have to look at some different models this weekend. Glad you got your car so soon.
ReplyDeleteI am not familiar with this song. I like both the Zombies and Sonny and Cher but don't recall hearing either of them doing this tune. Interesting retrospective look back into the 60's.
The Zombies version is nice, but I think Sonny and Cher put a lot more fire and interesting sound into their version.
I'm voting for Sonny and Cher on this Battle.

Well, you know I'm a Sonny and Cher fan, how could I not select their version.
ReplyDeleteHope you are doing well and continue to improve. Accidents always worry me and I'm such a careful driver, but I have some friends who are not, so I've been in two bad car crashes. Again, glad you are okay.
Nice car! Glad you're on the mend.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard this song before. The Zombies version was a bit bland, IMO. Sonny & Cher livened it up and I love Cher's voice (Sonny not so much, but it's okay). Please give my vote to Sonny & Cher.
The car's nice but I feel like it's incomplete. Repost pictures when you add the chrome spinner rims and raise it about 2 feet.
ReplyDeleteI've never been a big Sonny and Cher fan, but their version wasn't bad. I've got to side with the Zombies, though, because even if theirs is a little softer I like the music overall more (that nice organ sound).
Zombies get my vote, Sonny and Cher are not my faves, and the Zombies have that true sixties style in their version.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you're doing all right. Love the new car.
ReplyDeleteI will go with Sonny and Cher, only because watching the Sonny and Cher show was a highlight of my childhood.
It's a nice new Honda.
ReplyDeleteI go with the Zombies' version.
I joned BOTB today also.
I thought this would be a slam dunk (was never a Sonny & Cher fan), but I find I liked their version a lot more than I thought I would....but I am voting for the Zombies.
ReplyDeleteGood that you did not get another red car...I used to audit auto insurance claim offices, and the company had a statistic that red cars were involved in the most accidents.
Although I think that may be because most sports cars purchased for young teenagers' sixteenth birthdays are probably red.
The Zombies version kind of dragged, so I'm going for Sonny and Cher. Your new car is really cute.
ReplyDeleteGreat car! I'm not familiar with this song. I'll vote Zombies, but only by a slim margin.
ReplyDeleteGlad you're healing up, (smile).
Ooooh!n Snazzy new wheels!
ReplyDeleteRobin, first off I missed the news of your accident. I'm glad you're ok...well, you're not ok exactly, but you know what I mean. I'll keep you in my prayers for a speedy full recovery. This song I'm not familiar with so each group stands on their own today. Sonny and Cher are like-able and I like some of their music, but that's just about it for me. The Zombies clearly do the better job with this song, so give another vote the walking dead. Oh, I mean The Zombies!
ReplyDeleteOne more thing Sonny & Cher's video wouldn't play, but if you click the link it will redirect you to YouTube and it plays there.
DeleteEven though Sonny sings through his nose, I liked their style of this song a bit bette so Sonny and Cher get my vote. Glad you are healing up well and the new car looks great!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you're feeling better. Your new vehicle is gorgeous! How fun to have that new car smell! :) Try some heat for your back. I use a clay heating pad and it really helps relax those muscles...
ReplyDeleteAs for your battle, I'm going with Sonny & Cher. I have always been a fan of that dynamic duo! Please give my vote to them.
But the Zombies do a good job with the song too so this was a tough choice...
Great battle!
Michele at Angels Bark
'tis really lovely new car, indeed!
ReplyDeleteColin Blunstone versus Sonny Bono. Not even a choice for me. Zombies.
ReplyDeleteI'm a HUGE fan of The Zombies (musically speaking, at least. I couldn't tell you anything about the band or anyone in it, though.), so naturally, I like their psychedelic sound a LOT better.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this battle!
Your new car is so pretty! I am looking around trying to price my next one - not sure what it will be (as I get attached to cars), but I will need to replace in about a year or two. And it will take me that long to save up to buy one!
I bought my '95 Mustang brand new, drove it for 15 years (and 300K+ miles!!!!) before retiring it. I've had an adorable '02 VW New Beetle since 2010 - it's coming up on that time where I start trying to prepare for this one needing to be replaced.

So glad to hear you are on the mend. Accidents are no fun.
ReplyDeletePlease give my vote to Sonny & Cher.
Lovely new car. Glad to hear you are recovering nicely. Keep up with the physio. I choose Sonny and Cher. Have a great week and keep up with the recovery AND enjoy your new car. Drive safe!
ReplyDeleteSorry about your accident, I like the new one! M vote goes for The Zombies
ReplyDeleteI just don't dig the nasal sound S & C had going on back then. give my vote to the Zombies.
ReplyDeleteThat is a snazzy looking car. There you go, out and about again.
ReplyDeleteMy vote is for the zombies.
Congratulations on the new car! Glad to hear you're on the mend. Slow and steady. My vote goes to Sonny and Cher only because it's more upbeat.
ReplyDeleteSpiffy new car there, GIRL WONDER. (Did I really just type "spiffy"?) And I like the color much better, too.
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting how some BOTB contests get born. Like you discovering that the Sonny & Cher song you liked was actually a cover. And with my Battle this time, hearing that song in one of my favorite restaurants and already being familiar with the Van Morrison cover.
In this Battle, I am voting decidedly for THE ZOMBIES. I liked that "other era" echo sound it has, and aside from that, I've never really "gotten" the whole Sonny & Cher thing. Musically I find them rather boring and suspect that they were "created". Somebody probably had this idea: Hey, let's take this cute little hippie couple and use them to make us all rich.
At any rate, to me, the S&C cover was just kinda "there" (with unappealing vocal quality from Sonny) while THE ZOMBIES recording I genuinely liked.

The Sonny & Cher version sounded muddy and like there was too much going on in the background. Th Zombies take the prize here.
ReplyDeleteCool battle, Robin! I'd never heard this song before, and I enjoyed both versions... to the point I had to listen again to both in order to (try to) make a choice. I think I'm going with... Zombies. No, wait. Yes, Zombies. Actually... No. It's going to be Sonny & Cher. The Zombies have that "old" sound to them, which gives the song a unique quality... But the vocals on the S&C version really made it pop for me.
ReplyDeleteI did not know about the car crash!!!! I've been offline too long. But I'm absolutely delighted to hear you're ok and recovering so fast. I hope by the next BoTB you'll be completely back to normal. AND CONGRATS ON THE NEW RIDE!!! Very, very sweet :)
Guilie @ Quiet Laughter
Sonny and Cherdo....er, Cher! I think they're one of those oldies I can't ignore.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Robin!

ReplyDeleteHugs, Robin!
Congrats on the new car!! Its beautiful. So happy for you.
