W IS FOR WANNA BUY A DUCK

My theme for A to Z this year is a wildly different, but very exciting, HERE'S TO YOU all month long. 26 posts to be precise. The most difficult part was narrowing down the 26. All of you deserve your own post. What you will find here is a post by the featured blogger, with traveling music chosen by me that complements said post, and two links. One will link back to the original post and the other to the main page. This year's A to Z is all about making new friends!

Wanna Buy A Duck, penned by the incredible Manzanita, is always one of my favorite reads.  Even though she rarely talks about it on her blog, Manzi has done more Living than most of us will ever experience. I get *the best* comments from her.. She tends to not talk about all of the events that turned her into the woman she is today. Experience shapes our lives and thinking, no? Well, Manzi owns experience. Just some interesting tidbits she has shared here in my comments: There was a time she paid her bills by gambling in the casinos because money was tight. She was married to a man who owned a baseball team. Fidel Castro wanted to be a pitcher playing pro ball. He tried out for the team, but her husband said "no." He returned to Cuba and the rest is history. The only time she has ever seen a doctor was for the birth of her children, because her husband wanted that. She is also one of the healthiest people I've ever "met." Wonder if those two things are related???? Enough yakking by me...

Costco Shoppers in a Row. Pick your partner and Dosey Doe
For a child of the Great Depression, Costco is my kind of store. We, of that era, have to keep a well-stocked pantry. For others living in Montana, they stock up because who knows when they may visit a store again, especially in the winter.
I kept running into these two old cowboys and my mind likes to make up stories about strangers. I imagined them living on a ranch in White Sulphur Springs and could see them putting away their groceries.
I was mainly in Costco to purchase a salad spinner that I was drawn to the week before.
At that time, I stood in front of a salad spinners display and fought an urge  to buy a spinner. A silly thought, I have a spinner . That evening as I was spinning greens, my spinner cracked and spewed out  pieces of plastic. Finish salad spinner. Dang, why didn't I buy that one. Things like that frequently happen to me.

I got in the check-out line and there were the 2 cowboys. I said to them, "Getting ready for the long drive home?" One answered, " Yeah, we live in White Sulphur Springs."

Do you also run into arguments with your intuition and later wish you had listened.

Yeah, I do, and I am sure that I wrote a comment more lengthy than this post in her comments section. Ha!  Is your intuition telling you that you should click over and read Manzanita's blog? Yep, that's what I thought....

  1. Manzanita sounds like an interesting person. Here, many of us tend to shop on a weekly basis rather than stocking up for weeks on end.

  2. UGH! I hate when things like that happen!!

  3. OMG I would never have remembered that post. Thank you, Robin, for honoring me in that great shiny W spot. You know I get embarrassed when something points to me. I believe all babies born in 1930 were waved over with a wand of pusillanimity but you put up with the brittle edge that accompanies an old surviving broad.
You picked an interesting and exhilarating theme for the challenge and I've met many colorful people.

  4. She sounds like a tough woman, that's for sure. And someone who's good at reading people.

  5. She sounds like an interesting person and boy, does Allison Krouse have a beautiful voice or what?!

  6. Great post, Robin, and I'm going to head over there now. I enjoyed her writing here, except for one little thing – which I hate to admit, showing off my lack of kitchen skills – I have no idea what of salad spinner is. Now I know it's plastic, whatever it is. Because I don't devote a lot of time to my culinary skills, my idea of a salad is lettuce with three-cheese ranch dressing, toss it with a fork and you are done. :-)

    1. Oddly enough, I knew what a salad spinner was.. but I added a new word to my vocabulary... pusillanimous...

  7. The gambling idea would never work for me--I'd just get deeper in debt.

Never looked at the salad spinners in Costco, but we've bought a lot of stuff there. I've been drawn to the neon "OPEN" signs they sell there. I keep telling my wife that we should buy one of those to put on the front of the house and start a toilet paper store. My wife has this thing about buying a lot of toilet paper and keeping the shelves filled. I doubt we'll ever come close to running out. Thank you Costco.

    Enjoyed visiting again with Manzanita.

  8. Manzanita: Psychic Much?

    ROBIN ~
I have heard (er... "read") you rave about Manzanita so many times, that I know she really is one of your favorite bloggers.

As I've said (er... "written") previously, I just wish she blogged about the "hidden knowledge", because that's the stuffs that really interests me. But I'll head on over there and take another look. I know she gets your highest recommendation!

I also meant to mention that I too used to support myself by gambling. But I played the horses, on a daily basis, at Hollywood Park... for about 3 to 4 weeks. Then I got a "real" job. Some of my horses are still running. The slower ones, however, are now glue.

  9. I always listen to my intuition, a lesson hard learned. But there are weird coincidences. In Egypt, it only rains about 6-7 times a year. In the last two months, my husband washed his car twice. Each time, it rained within a day. (And the rain here mixes with the dust in the air and makes a big mess on cars.) Now he's sworn off washing the car for the rest of the year. lol

  10. I really try to pay attention to my intuuition, but sometimes I forget to and DANG! I should have! Now I am going over to Manzanita's site!

  11. Intuition is my middle name. I find that others listen to my intuition more than I do. :)

  12. I usually listen to my intuition, because when I don't, it pays me back. Experience has taught that the bright idea we first get is usually the right one.

A former police officer called it 'gut feeling', in a women's self defense class. If it feels wrong, don't do it, your intuition is telling you something'. I listened.

  13. I listen to mine most of time, but other times, like when I'm shopping and think I should buy a certain item I don't, hoping it will go on sale. I go back later that same day and it's gone! Such a bummer.

Manzi sounds AWESOME! Thanks for introducing her to us, Robin.

Hope all is well. Have a great weekend!

  14. I try very hard to listen to my intuition, because it has a Nast habit of being very, very right.

  15. Manzanita, you have started me thinking of the backstory of those two cowboys! Fun post. Thanks for introducing Manzanita to me!

  16. Robin ..I must make you my compliments for your choice of "Cue the traveling music", I was fascinated to hear it ...very beautiful.

  17. My parents grew up in the depression and they always kept things stocked. Canned goods and paper products to lasts months and they always had bunches of batteries.

  18. Most often, I listen to my intuition, especially when it comes to people. The people I have called friends are among the best of humans! Then there are those whom I don't know well, or meet briefly, when my intuition tells me I'm better off keeping a distance. Often it becomes clear sometime down the road why my internal radar was on alert.

  19. My intuition stinks. It's always giving my bad advice. Can I get Manzanita or some of you other guys to follow me around and lend me yours?

(Although I now know to go to Lee's house if I need toilet paper.)

  20. Hey Robin,

A superb choice. Manzanita is one of my favourite bloggers and the kind interaction we share warms the heart. I remember the posting you have featured. I listen to my intuition and then ignore it. This means I'm the zany dude folks look bewildered at in the shops.

Manzanita rocks! Thanks for this Robin. And hey, Mr. Alphabet Dude allows you Sunday's off for good behavior, sorry, correct English spell check, good "behaviour."

Thank you, Robin. Enjoy that Sunday.

  21. I do listen to my intuition most of the time. When I do not, these kinds of things happen. That's cool about the cowboys, and I laughed. :)

I love the A-Z challenge because Manzanita is posting everyday. I love reading what she writes. Def. one of my fave blogs and favorite bloggers too!! Great choice for 'W.' :)

  22. What a fascinating woman. I need to visit her more often.
You describe these bloggers so well, Robin. Your A-Z series is one of the best I've seen.
    Be well.

  25. You know you are the one to finally have gotten me to read Manzi and I'm glad I do. She is funny and wise and I'm kind of thinking that she will outlive us all!
OK, so I also have to confess that I am that annoying person who would have bought the salad spinner and then had mine break the next day and just thought 'oh well, see I knew I'd be needing that.' I also have an uncanny way of picking up weird knowledge and needing to use it within the week. Yeah, I once had a friend tell me I live a charmed life. I reminded her that she wasn't around for the first 2/3's of it!
Anyway, Manzi is one of those people who gives me hope that there's a whole lot of life still left to live and I get to do it my way. ;)

I forgot to comment on Allison Krauss. Had I told you that my husband and I used to go on a lot of cruises from canaveral? We lived just down the road in Indialantic which is on the beach from Melbourne. He liked cruises because walking was getting difficult for him and I think he loved the food. Ha He insisted we go on a certain country cruise and I wasn't at all thrilled but it turned out to be the most fun we ever had on a cruise. Passengers and country stars were all isolated together, bobbing out on the water, so everyone just mingled. Many headliners performed and I remember one talent I had never heard of before, Allison Krauss, very young, never tried to bedazzle but performed in jeans and sweat shirt. She always played her fiddle and sang along. I thought she was delightfully talented. I later mentioned to my husband that she needed a little glitz and with this video, I can see how makeup and clothes help enhance true beauty. I've watched her entertainment growth on TV throughout the years and I'd say, "It couldn't happen to a nicer person."
I must have told you about this or you wouldn't have picked her...... whooo whooo whooo whooo...... your psychic matter is shining forth through the ether.
