My theme for A to Z this year is a
wildly different, but very exciting, HERE'S TO YOU all month long. 26
posts to be precise. The most difficult part was narrowing down the 26.
All of you deserve your own post. What you will find here is a post by
the featured blogger, with traveling music chosen by me that complements
said post, and two links. One will link back to the original post and
the other to the main page. This year's A to Z is all about making new
friends!
Quatro De' Mayo: A Family Event, penned by Gossip Girl at ~*~Whatever~*~, sums up fairly accurately why this blog works so well. Gossip Girl writes about what she knows. That means she covers local politics, job woes, family melodrama, fishing, hunting, and other stuff the Hubs likes to do, and even menopause. In other words, pretty much everything is on the table and served up for seconds. Sometimes it's funny and sometimes it's serious, but its always interesting!
Cue the traveling music:
Quatro De' Mayo: A Family Event by Gossip Girl
6/10/13
We used to have a family reunion for years.
The last one we had was like six years ago. After everyone was gone I
swore to my parents that I knew I was adopted, "You can tell me. I won't get upset."
It made sense that I was adopted after that day. I was the only one
feeling that everyone attending got on my nerves! I have a relative that
I'll call Skut Farkus. It's fitting she looks just like him. Seriously I
am not lying. Growing up she even acted like him right down to being the neighborhood bully. She was 45 the last reunion
and still acted like Skut Farkus and even today still looks just like
him. She was asked to leave the funeral of a family friend and was even
escorted out of the funeral home and that was two years ago. Now my
cousin Farkus either takes too many meds or not enough, haven't
figured out which! After everyone had left and I was helping my mom
clean up I told her that this was the last one that I was coming to as
we talked about a few things that had happened that day. That was last
one that my mom and dad hosted. My sister got the brainy idea to start
it back up this year and that she would play host to this day of
disaster. I am hoping there are prizes for those who don't want to be
there because six years ago when we had the last one it was a total
disaster. I used to think we were the only family that has that one
family member who comes to family events just to ruin everything which
is why I was trying my best to ditch this one. I tried all of the
excuses like... I'm allergic and my doctor told me to stay away from things that cause too much stress, stuff
like that, but since my sister was hosting the event I couldn't ditch
it! When she asked what I was bringing I told her scorpions. No, I swear
I plotted going to the pet store to bring a couple, just in case! I
have no clue how she did it, but even though Farkus showed up, it went
off with no fights or arrests. I am still amazed it happened like that
and that is not the Jack talking either!
You been to any family reunions like this one? Me either. That's why it's fun to read Gossip Girl. She writes about all the juicy stuff!
Gossip Girl - she's a riot! I remember that post. You can always count on snark and a wicked sense of humor. But genuine. Her emails are the same - genuine.
ReplyDeleteExcellent choice, Robin!
Have a Blessed Easter.
So funny, and yet so true. If only we could control the dynamics of family.

ReplyDeleteThis was great... probably my favorite of your 'A To Zs' so far.
The post was great (I knew I'd like it the moment I saw the name Skut "Yellow Eyes" Farkus introduced), and the song was perfect, too. Not just the perfect song, but a song I really like. (If you've never heard Hank Junior's "sequel" to it, you should: 'The Ballad Of Hank Williams' sung to the tune of Johnny Horton's 'The Battle Of New Orleans'. It's not EXACTLY a sequel, but it's funny as hell and he references the "Family Tradition" again.)
What a fun installment. I'll have to check out her blog.

Nothing like family to get on your nerves, lol. Awesome picture.
ReplyDeleteThis year on Cinco de Mayo, Jilda and I will be married 40 years. Woo Hoo.
ReplyDeleteFunny stuff. The title grabbed me since I'm in L.A. and there's so much hoopla about Cinco De Mayo. My family is too scatter to have a family reunion like that. I guess some of them who live closer together do them occasionally but I don't go. Only one I ever went to was in about 1978 I guess.

An A to Z Co-host blog
I don't like to go to family reunions because they involve family.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Arrested Development got the idea for their "Quatro" from this?
As a child I was forced to attend these large events with no one I knew, and have since avoided them. Usually they are too far away, so we send our regrets. Small reunions with family members we like - this uncle, that sister, etc. My grandmother used to leave these events muttering under her breath. . . it was her family. . .
ReplyDeleteNice intro to another blogger, Robin! A touch of family 'reality' gives us tales to tell.
You can never go wrong with Bocephus! :) That family reunion sounds sort of familiar...I wonder if I'm related to Gossip Girl?? :D
ReplyDeleteI love her sense of humor and always look forward to her next post.

And now I look forward to my family reunion this summer. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, yeah, I follow G_G.
ReplyDeleteOur family reunions are always tame and very boring. I skipped the last two.
ReplyDeleteKudos to her sister for stepping up and pulling it off, even w/a Farkus. And now I'm off to go look up who Farkus is... I really don't know. :)
That sounds like a very entertaining family! It's like live theater you get free tickets to. lol
ReplyDeleteUm, yes, I can relate to the extended family getting on the nerves. All those family dynamics make for good stories though. :)
ReplyDeleteShe's hilarious. We all need a Skut Farkus in the family, for the sake of good stories.

Wow, that's hilarious, and horrifying. I wonder if the sister didn't have a few words with Farkus. The last family reunion I went to was joyful (albeit like 20 years ago) and reading this makes me thankful for that!
ReplyDeleteI think every family has a "spoiler" My husbands family does.....we go to all gaterings regardless....but we stay FAR FAR AWAY from Morticia. My family had a few, but they aren't around anymore. Thank goodness.
ReplyDeleteHi human, Robin,
ReplyDeleteMy human and I just love Gossip Girl. Skut Farkus is a name you have to pronounce real careful. Ah, family reunions, now I remember why my human moved to England. This way, he doesn't have to put up with Uncle Butts stupid jokes.
Thanks for making note of the adorable Gossip Girl, my human friend, Robin.
Pawsitive wishes,
Penny, the friendly host of the Alphabark Challenge! )
And have a peaceful Easter.
Haven't been t a family reunion in years. And I don't miss them. LOL. Happy Easter.
ReplyDeleteI actually never went to a family reunion. Closest I got to one was my gradfather's funeral. Sad, but true.
ReplyDeleteFunny story, and I love the Butt Family tree! Gossip Girl is always entertaining!
ReplyDeleteJulie
Great story. I was just notified that some relatives are planning a family reunion for next year.
ReplyDeleteQ is for queer family. I love it! Thanks for visiting IWSG!
ReplyDeleteI do not speak of my extended family gatherings. We'll just say that I haven't been to one in over a decade. We've never had official "reunions," though. Shew!
ReplyDeleteSkut Farkus.... Is that a fact? Well, as long as you keep mixing the serious with the funny. It's the only way in my book.
ReplyDeleteI am playing catch up today and although I saw this email alert come in an email I didn't put two and two together. Thanks for the shout out! :) Another family reunion is planned yet again for this year- oh boy! Here we go again!
