And Then There Were... Bullets

I am considering making Mondays bullet point post days. Every week they overtake me and I am (sadly) unprepared. Ergo... say it with bullets.
  • Remember that ennui I mentioned toward blogging about a week ago, possibly more. Well, it's still there, but I am enjoying putting a video on my TV blog (every day but Saturday). Some are current TV and some cancelled shows. But it is FUN. If you want to see what is going on there, click HERE.
  • I feel like I am gaining traction on my novel. Several CPs came back with excellent suggestions and the whole project is moving onward and upward. Woohoo! If you want to beta read or CP this project, email me.
  • This has been a Not So Great week in terms of migraines. Yeah, that means I am struggling. I woke up with a doozy this morning. My dreams must be powerful stuff if they trigger this sort of reaction. I just wish I could remember what CAUSED this massive amount of stress. And this massive migraine... that even now has my stomach flip-flopping and my head feeling like it wants to pound itself right off my shoulders.
  • You might be thinking... why aren't you in bed? I was. For hours. And it doesn't help. That isn't to say that I won't be returning directly...
  • I stumbled into my next song for Battle of the Bands last week. BOTB will be this Wednesday. And I am 95% positive I am going with the song I just found. I didn't even know there was a cover(s). How exciting is that???? Well, for me: very. For you: meh. Ha!
  • Mom and I like to go to the game rooms here in Florida. We don't spend much and usually come out a few bucks ahead. I figure when it all washes out, we either break even or make a little bit. A few years ago, when we lived in Yulee, we came out way ahead. That was my second source of income. Ah... the economy.
  • Anyway... two things happened this week that made me think about people and how crazy they are.
  • First: It's 8:30PM and we are in a PACKED game room. This woman is telling one or two other people her PERSONAL BUSINESS at the top of her voice. And then she says something like, "This is private. My personal business. I don't want the whole world to know." Or something like that.
  • I am sitting on the other side of the room and I can hear every word she says.
  • Guy sitting next to me mutters, "A bit late for that."
  • I thought, "Heck, yeah. I wish she'd toned it down ten minutes ago." That thought was followed up by, "I bet she'd make a great character in a novel some day."
  • Yesterday, mom and I were leaving the game room (different room) when these two women walk in. Mom is going to the ladies room and I am waiting. Turns out these two are mother-daughter. The mother says loudly (of course), "My daughter is visiting me. She has done nothing but complain about how hot it is since she got here."
  • Man, I love that kind of guest (you know, the complaining kind). It's been 80 degrees here the last few days. Freakin' gorgeous weather. The daughter says, "Well, it's 33 where I live." And she says it like she wishes she were there. (I wished she was there, too.)
  • And it goes like that. On and on and on. Finally, they leave the counter and move to some games and the mother is still talking loudly enough for the ENTIRE ROOM to hear their conversation.
  • And that is when it hits me (again) that this could be yet another facet of that annoying character I met in the game room earlier in the week.
  • For all of you still wondering about my shoulder... man, it still hurts. I am doing exercises and gaining range of motion. But, the pain is still... Well, let's put it this way: It is very painful to pull up my pants. Something about that specific rotation in the shoulder really hurts. Yesterday we stopped at Arby's for dinner and I needed to use the restroom. Tiny stall. In the process of the already-painful pulling up the pants process I slam my (bad) arm into the TP dispenser. I nearly cried right there in the stall.
  • Last, but not least, some old dude hit on me at the karaoke place. I am a magnet for old dudes. Worse, I remain stunned each time they hit on me. This particular one was missing most of his teeth and I am pretty sure he was older than my mother - who was sitting right next to me. Ah well... if any of you guys can explain this phenomena, I am all ears.
I guess that is a wrap. Any of this sound familiar????

  1. LOL on the woman loudly talking about her personal business. Reminds me of a guy at the breakfast diner near our Pocono Mountains getaway house last weekend. He was loudly telling the waitress about some co-worker who got his fingers sliced off in the machinery where he works. My 14 year-old daughter threw down her fork and exclaimed, "Lost my appetite for sausages." He looked offended. Like we were eavesdropping. Like we could have helped it ...

    1. Those are the WORST stories to tell at mealtime. I think some people simply cannot hear themselves. Again... it would make for an interesting character.

  2. Sorry your head hurts so bad, but good to know it hasn't robbed you of your snark! At least you're getting a long list of characters you can use.

Well, SHEESH! If I'd-a known you were going to publicly ridicule me on your blog I never would have asked you to dance!

Alright, I gotta go floss now, but I'll be back in a second...

  4. I love the "bullets" double entendre! When I read the title, I thought you meant real bullets! I'm so sorry about your migraines. I wish you could find something that works. Yay for character inspiration! Boo for old leches hitting on you. :P

  5. Ha, it's funny you mention the annoyingly loud mother-daughter combo. I got to experience that at the grocery store yesterday. This poor lady is shopping with her mother, who's maybe 50 and rail thin. The mother is in one of those motorized carts and driving like a maniac, and keeps getting out to walk and reach things on the high shelf (because of course she's not truly handicapped). On top of that, she keeps shouting at her daughter, "It's so cold in here! I don't like it! Did you hear me? I said it's cold in here! I don't like it!"

Meanwhile I'm thinking, yeah, so? What do you want your daughter to do about it? Ask the manager to raise the thermostat a few degrees?

  7. Hope those migraines leave you soon. Glad the game room was good to you. Every bit helps.

  8. Good that the writing is going well. Hope that shoulder and the migraine gives you some relief. As to that woman, she might as well have taken out a billboard ad.

  9. Well, if you did your karaoke at a game room, then the old boys might hit on the loud ladies...

  10. Considering more women have asked me out than I've asked (always been shy, not saying that that many women have asked-probably explains my marital status or lack thereof), I would say don't blame a man for asking as long as he is not offensive.

The problem, I know, is that after a drink or two, most men are not a fraction as charming as they think they are.

I always thought dating would be easier as I got older. HAH!

  14. OK, I'm still trying to figure out what the heck a game room is....
How long has it been since you saw the person who helped you out with the tapping therapy? Just curious.
People like the ones you describe are at least entertaining. The only thing I can think of that might be worse are those who won't talk at all because you are not one of their 'kind' and they can't be bothered to acknowledge that anyone outside their circle exists.

    1. See the explanation below on game rooms....
I need to go back to my tapping therapist. It's been a month or so. My insurance has changed and it is now MUCH MORE COSTLY for me to see her.
      Yes, they are.

  15. I don't remember "game rooms" when I lived in Florida. It's gambling, right? We used to have to go out on the water in a choppy boat to gamble. I remember one terrible storm came up and the heavy machines were flying everywhere. The only safe place was in the stairways. What a fun day that turned out to be.
You still have the pain in the shoulder, huh. There must be a blockage somewhere. Sorry the headaches have returned. In what area of your head does the pain originate? It sounds like a dumb question but I may have a tip (for what my tips are worth...ha)

    1. They are internet rooms. You buy sweepstakes time. So, no matter what game you choose to play, your winning are predetermined... like the lottery. So many winning tickets are put out there... while the rest. Anyway, we enjoy playing. I can't do gambling boats because of my inner ears.

I think the problem with my shoulder is that the rotator cuff is torn and needs surgery to actually get better. I just can't afford the surgery and the accompanying rehab (even with insurance). So, I am trying to "manage" it best I can.

The headaches are always on the right side, but I think the worst ones originate in my neck, travel over my head, and then settle on the right side. Also really bad... when it settles behind my right eye. Aaacchhh. Today it is gone... so woohoo!

  16. Having helped my wife and sister-in-law with their arcade business, I can picture each person you describe. It sure takes all kinds, no doubt :) Hope you start making some headway on your migraines, I know how terrible those can be. As for older men hitting on younger women, I can't really help you there. I'm not that old....yet :)

  19. wow - you are bringing back florida memories (i lived there for junior high, high school, and a few years after college!) i love cooler weather, but at the time, the sun was awesome! and lots of interesting characters!

sorry for your aches and pains! why do we always seem to bang our already hurting limb?

sounds like you got some good material for characters and i hope you feel better all over soon!

  20. Between the woman shouting her private business and the old guy hitting on you, I'm not surprised your headaches flared up. Wow, hope you feel better soon.

  22. Wouldn't it have been nice if the man with the missing teeth was a massage therapist/acupuncturist, and he could've immediately gone to work on your headache and shoulder?! Sorry you're not feeling better, but it sounds like you put some of these annoying character traits to work in your novel. Take care, Robin!

  23. The best thing about people is that they're always different. Some are pleasant, others are not. Wether we are conscious of it or not, we are all playing different roles in the game of life, that's why I love observing people, you can always get an insight from how they behave and interact. These encounters I bet are useful for your writeups 😊

Migraines were my worst enemy last year, I hope yours be gone soon.
