  1. Hi, Robin,

HAPPY FRIDAY.... Some great clips here. LOVE the Japanese couple in limo. Foul Play is a GREAT late 70's movie....

  4. Okay the lip reading cracked me up. I am not ashamed to say I watched it twice.

  5. You always get a Train song in there when you can, don't you? I love the song, End of the World As We Know It.

  6. My God!

GIRL WONDER, it brought tears to my eyes. (They're still there, I'm just typing through them.)

I'll be back later. I need to digest it, to process it and... listen a couple more times.

It wouldn't be me if I didn't say something snarky (and true at the same time) so I'll add: I had to go back and look again at the name of the singer because I couldn't believe it was a guy.

With that out of the way... The song is beautiful and really, really... hit me "where I live".

Was this based on something I've written? A blog bit? A comment somewhere? Or was this just you tapping into my mind again? In other words... you being "a motorcycle mechanic"?

    1. This is actually one of the songs I plan to use as part of The Soundtrack of My Life (later down the road), but I knew it was also you after reading your soundtrack post on the Stuffs blog. Maybe I should have linked you there...

I first heard this three weeks ago on Nashville's On The Record, which is recorded at The Opry. I would've preferred using that, but there is not a good recording yet on YouTube. Jonathan Jackson played the piano and sang it. I don't know if I cried or not. I think I did.

Anyway, when I heard it that first time I thought of you. And then after reading your Stuffs soundtrack I really thought of you. I know you work hard so that people don't really see you, but sometimes we do. At least we hope we do. I think maybe your response to this says sometimes we do.

    2. I've listened to it, like, 4 times now. It's a GREAT song. I tried to look into it a little bit, and found that the lyrics were actually written by two women, and they are truly fabulous. I don't think one songwriter in a hundred, writing lyrics today, would be capable of writing something this profound, touching, and creative.

Now, this is not the Jonathan Jackson of 'Jonathan Jackson + Enation' is it? I came across that band while doing some Google searches, but the Nashville connection seems like it could possibly be the same bloke, just working alone without his bandmates.

      >>... I know you work hard so that people don't really see you...

I don't agree with that. I am ALWAYS being the real me. But the thing is, I am pretty multi-faceted, and I tend to exhibit certain facets a lot more than others. But thinking back to that 'Soundtrack Of My Life' blog bit I linked you to, could you really say I wasn't "letting it all hang out" there? I mean, that alone was probably way TMI, but I definitely showed many facets there that don't often see the light of day.

And I could point to other blog bits where I have done likewise over the years. But I figure some parts go a long way, and I'd rather present the light-hearted, humorous side of me most often, figuring most people would prefer to be entertained (even if only slightly so) than read my Black 'n' Blues.

    3. Here is what I know about Jonathan Jackson. Or think I know. I'm trying to pull from Years of memory here. Jonathan Jackson got his start on General Hospital playing Luke and Laura's son, Lucky. It was a pretty big break for a kid. Turns out he's super talented. He also either was a Christian or became one while on that show. It wasn't a big deal when he was a kid, and even a teenager. He was always a front-burner character (more or less) but wasn't asked to participate in sexual situations that would've been uncomfortable for him. GH also worked his music into the show for the character. I think he was in his late teens, early 20s, when he left. He came back briefly several years ago before his start on Nashville, but that didn't last long. (I could be wrong but I think the reason JJ left GH was because he didn't want to be in those uncomfortable sex scenes that are now way too graphic on daytime TV. It goes against his moral compass. And even though Nashville is a serial type format, I can't think of a scene wherein JJ would've have been uncomfortable with having to "perform" on TV.)

I wasn't aware that his band was as successful as it appears to be on YouTube. I knew he had one. I suspect that they were playing/recording BEFORE Nashville and now still. So, yes, Jonathan Jackson and Enation... same Jonathan Jackson.

Nashville has been a wonderful show for him (and anyone who loves to sing/act). All of the singers/actors on that show just blow it away weekly. If you will recall, I posted the entire episode last season of them at the Opry called On The Record. They did it again this year, but YT doesn't have a good recording of it yet.

One of the things they talked abut in the video you already saw was how the actors and song writers work together. It has even caused new writing partnerships to form with these actors/singers doing more songwriting. There is nothing like this show on TV now (and has never been in the past) in the terms of the music and what an interdynamic there is between actors and songwriters.

I typed and then deleted something about your friend Marty. Mostly because that Stuffs post long and I didn't want to say it wrong. What I remembered (right or wrong) was that he made you a mix tape that he thought was the perfect soundtrack of your life. And you thought, "Nope." And several years later you made him a mix tape that was a more accurate reflection of you. And then when you did this post it turned out Marty may have been more tuned in than you initially thought. And that is what I mean by you immediately saying, "Nope," when someone thinks they "know" you. Yes, you are multi-faceted (as we all are, really), and I think you live quite solidly in the belief that no one knows the whole you (and you're quite likely very right about that, as we all wonder if we ever really can know another), but... I feel like I'm out in really dangerous water now... which is why I deleted this the first time around... and probably shouldn't have added that last paragraph in the response.

    4. How about this? I know you don't often mention your Black 'n Blues, but you do sometimes. And I get it. I really do. I imagine other people do, too. And, for me, I don't feel I really know someone until I see their Black 'n Blues. If someone tries to convince me they are Shiny Happy People all of the time, I just don't buy it. Or maybe I think... Well that's all well and good, but I don't know what WE'RE gonna have in common. ha!

I suppose that most people prefer light-hearted stuffs. I'm just one of those that likes the other stuff better. I guess it feels more real. Not more honest, because they are both true. Just more real. And special. So, that said, I really enjoyed your Soundtrack post and am really glad you're considering doing the feature again. One song at a time. With the freedom to add more songs if you like:) You can actually get IN THERE and really bare it all if you want.

Last quick note about JJ and Nashville: I don't recommend you watching the TV show. I don't think you'd like it. BUT, I do recommend the albums. I think there are three or four albums featuring songs from the shows. I think you'd like THAT a lot. This song is on one of them.

    5. I realize (now) I could've just said that I read your Soundtracks post. I thought of this song. This is my contribution to a Soundtrack mix tape (that I don't actually plan on making, because UNFORTUNATELY no one makes mix tapes any more). But that I was concerned about how you'd receive it since your friend Marty knew you way better than I do... Now, does that make sense?

Anyway, so glad you REALLY liked this song.

    6. GIRL WONDER ~
Yeah, I understand, and there's no problem, not now nor in the future. You needn't worry about offending me and walking on eggshells because I don't offend too easily and I am fairly tough emotionally. You can just spill whatever it is you're thinking and I'll be fine with that.

Even Marty's mix tape had an element of humor in it, when I later came to realize he'd known me far better than I'd ever realized. It's especially smile-worthy because I often used to say way back then that no one would ever really know me. But truthfully, if two people could be friends for 12 years and not really know each other, then those are some pretty dense people.

I don't spill my guts very often, but I do open the windows and doors on occasion, when I feel like it, and so people who are paying attention will get a good look, if they're inclined to care at all.

I'm not an open book, exactly, but I wouldn't say I'm a closed and sealed book either.

I saw some of those Nashville albums you mentioned while I was trying to find out who this JJ guy was. I may give a listen at Spotify, if they're there. But truthfully, it's the lyrics more than anything that wowed me, so I'm probably more interested in the female co-writers.

I apologize for the deleted misspelled word. (Thnska)

Now that my laptop keyboard has been cleaned, hopefully the keys will stop sticking and I can write, "Thank you, Robin," without a malfunction.

      Thank you, Robin!

  10. "Kojak, bang bang!" I love it. I really must watch that movie again very soon. (as I think my other here's to you was from Foul Play as well?) Hilarious, and thank you!

  11. I'd never heard of the singer Jonathan Jackson, but that song was beautiful and had wonderful lyrics. I started feeling so sad for STMcC. Haven't read his comment yet but now I have to see what he had to say.

  12. Oh my gosh, I burst out a laugh that likely jolted the neighbors. I wasn't sure what the sound was until Dubya said "I tooted." Loved that.

I appreciate, and can't imagine, how much you invest in scanning movies and TV for the perfect combination of snippets for the perfect mix of bloggers. It's impressive, Robin.

    Have a great weekend.

  17. Thanks, Robin. I needed this. The bad lip reading AND the Die Hard clip. You have such a great memory for this stuff. I've seen Die Hard a few times, but never would I think to reference such a short, random bit. That's pretty impressive.

Also, I don't think a shower and a hot cup of coffee OR making my toes into fists will help make flying any more bearable. How about a bear tranquilizer? Is that an option?
