I promised you the vote count today in the Battle of the Bands contest. The song was Always On My Mind and the contenders were Willie Nelson and The Pet Shop Boys. If you were reading the comments (and voting), then this outcome is NOT a surprise. Willie Nelson won this by a country mile. The final tally (without my vote) was Willie Nelson with 22 and The Pet Shop Boys with 3. I already told you that I really like both versions, so I am going to Abstain with zero guilt. My vote wouldn't make a difference anyway! I will see you on the 15th for the next BOTB.
Several of you offered up your favorite Romantic Clips in the comments section and I appreciate that. I have so many clips to fit in here before V-Day that I am just going to put them on this Here's To You post. So... the dedications to C. W. Martin and Gossip Girl are actually NOT my response to their post for this week, but a romantic clip meant to tug at the heartstrings. What do you say we get down to it???
Drum roll please.
It is Thursday and that means it is HERE'S TO YOU day! All in all, the best day of the week here on YOUR DAILY DOSE. Why? Because it's a celebration for YOU.
If you don't know what this HERE'S TO YOU stuff is about, let me explain. This is a weekly event landing typically on Thursdays. The best (or worst) part is that I am not going to explain why I chose "whatever" footage for each of you. If, you watch your footage and are scratching your head at the end, well that means I didn't do a very good job. However, all is not lost. You can email me at rarichards68@gmail.com and ask me what I was thinking when I chose that particular piece of footage off of youtube and connected it to you. And then I will tell you. Then I will start sending up prayers that I haven't offended the crap out of whoever is on the receiving end of that email....lol. Because, honestly, I will tell you right now... I admire all of you enormously so I really hope that doesn't happen.
Also, this is not an exclusive venture by any means. I hope that you will take the time to watch ALL of the footage because I don't pick bad footage:-) I also hope that you might check out the blog of the person I dedicated the footage to because they are pretty darn awesome. If you haven't figured this out yet... I pick the footage based on something that you've written or something that I've gleaned from your personality. Think on that for a while... If you are having trouble watching the entire video (meaning it is being cut off on one side), click on it a couple of times and it will take you straight over to youtube. If you click on the four squares at the bottom corner of the video, it will enlarge it to fill your screen. The escape key will bring it back to normal size. The back arrow will bring you back to my page.
Now, let's get this PARTY STARTED!!!!

I believe I was the one that mentioned Titanic... though perhaps not the only one...
ReplyDeleteNo, it was you. My memory is going. I will FIX IT.
DeleteBudweiser always makes good commercials. Stroh's had a good one though, years ago w/the dog getting beers for the guys playing poker. :) That was in the 80's and I still remember it.
ReplyDeleteThe promo on the book is a good one. I've Tweeted it out for you! I'm headed over to Facebook to share in a sec.
Happy Thursday!
Thank you, Robin!!
ReplyDeleteAl will like his.
And yes, the Budwiser one was cute.
No surprise on the battle of the band. I love the puppy commercial. That was the best one from the Super Bowl.
ReplyDeletePuppy love was gorgeous. The NSA one was a wee bit disturbing ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Robin. Always been fan of Snoopy. And I love the puppy ad, first time I see it but it's great. Smiling already.
ReplyDeleteI love that puppy love video, but I couldn't watch all of the next one. Barry creeped me out.
ReplyDeleteVery touching Budweiser commercial. GWTW is one of the most romantic movies of all time. Perfect video for Robyn's Man In A Black Dress post!
ReplyDeleteJulie
I have been trying to get to your blog for a couple a days and it kept freezing on me. :/ Love all the videos you have here, and awww thanks for the memorable kiss from Gone With the Wind. :)
ReplyDeleterosey ~ I vaguely remember that commercial. Now I am going to have to look for it! Do you remember the Coke commercial (I am almost 100% that it was Coke) from the 70s with the puppies jumping all over the little boy and him laughing? Every time I watched that commercial I laughed, too. It was this wonderful feel good ad. And I wanted a puppy;) Interestingly enough, the desire to drink a Coke didn't immediately hit me.
ReplyDeleteAlex ~ You are welcome. I need to make it over to Amazon today. This has been a crazy week.
Sherry ~ Yeah, the BOTB ended up being totally predictable, which shocked me because I can't decide between the two. Just goes to show that you simply can't anticipate how these things will turn out.
Lynda ~ Love the puppy commercial. Thank you - someone finally commented on the NSA commercial. Can you believe that they made that commercial to make people feel BETTER about being watched? At least, I hope that was the intention. If not, they just wanted to creep everyone out MORE.
Al ~ So glad you like yours. You and Snoopy think alike:) Love that puppy ad. Makes me tear up every time. I am just a big softie.
River ~ Thank you for commenting on the NSA video. Barry is totally creepy.
Julie ~ Yes. I have the book on my kindle, but I haven't read it yet. There is so much to read and so little time. I thought so. I hope she likes it.
GG ~ If you will notice, I didn't actually choose the kiss scene, though I could have, because it was there. I watched this one and that one and decided that sometimes the build up to the kiss is more romantic than the kiss itself. When he tells her that she needs kissing badly - and often... well, LOVED IT.
I love that song! Thanks for the shout-out, Robin! :)
ReplyDeleteI loved that Bud commercial with the puppies. My favorite of all the ones shown during the super bowl. There was a commercial years ago... maybe in the '50s or early '60s about a dog food. Purina Dog Chow maybe? Anyhow, there was an enormous Great Dane lying next to a big bowl of chow... watching baby ducks climb all over it. The ducks are saying things like, "Do you see a dog?" "I don't see a dog." "What dog?" etc. etc. Just adorable.
ReplyDeleteLots of good clips today. Thanks especially for "mine". Quite appropriate.
Happy weekend!
*Laughter* All the times I heard that song, I never knew it was about a woman in a black dress. Funny! Thanks so much for the cheer, Robin.
ReplyDeleteBe well.
Stay warm.
xoRobyn
David ~ :)
ReplyDeleteSusan ~ I don't remember that commercial. But I will look it up. Do you remember these?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rnwppcD-SMc
Glad you liked your clip. It's something anyone who "creates" should watch;)
Robyn ~ That is hilarious. YOU crack me up.
I would be surprised if the Pet Shop Boys ever won any match-up unless it was a cover of "West-End Boys". They did do that song didn't they? Or am I totally confused as to who this group is? I don't really know much about their music so maybe I'm being a bit unfair. What was their style? 80's Happy Pop?
ReplyDeleteLee
A Few Words
With respect to your BOTB - all is right with the world - Willie Nelson won. I could not imagine it turning out any other way. BTW - smart move abstaining from voting there. Ha, ha, ha!
ReplyDeleteThat NSA commercial freaks the hell out of me.
ReplyDeleteArlee ~ Look at you pushing the envelope with your comment. I LIKE The Pet Shop Boys!!! They did West End Boys. Their style was synth music... synthpop.
ReplyDeleteFAE ~ I have noticed that most of the time I can abstain without it affecting the vote. I am glad that there is enthusiastic participation!
Blue ~ Me too. I am surprised that more people haven't commented on it. Now, when V-Day is over I am going to have to devote an entire post just to THAT.
Awesome Snoopy pic!
ReplyDeleteAnd I really liked the criticism vid. That's a great way to look at it. And he was kinda cute too. :)
You know, OJ and his friend really ruined the Bronco's reputation when they fled the police at 40 mph. Thats when everyone suddenly noticed that the Bronco's horsepower rating had dropped all the way down to 200 and was anemic. After that Ford killed it and created the 4-door Explorer. So there's another murder for which OJ was never held accountable - the Ford Bronco.
ReplyDeletePk ~ Yes, everyone in the arts needs to watch that one.
ReplyDeleteSteve ~ You slay me.
