Now, sometimes I think that because it is just so darn beautiful that it makes my heart hurt. The words fit together like music. Actual music.
And other times it is because it something that I have been trying to say, but I just have not quite made the point succinctly. Often it is because I think for SO MANY REASONS that I can't decide on just one.
Here is a portion of something that I did not write, but I wish I had:
Oh, one last thing: Here’s a little history lesson regarding gun-grabbing and the carnage that ensued:
In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.
China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.
Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million educated people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th century because of gun control: 56 million.
You won’t see this data on the U.S. evening news or hear politicians disseminating this information. Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens.Take note, Americans.

You see, I am just sick to death of politicians using gun control to promote a political agenda. If you want to beat a drum, try discussing mental health or actually putting programs that work into protecting our kids at school. I think many a parent would be on board with that. And you wouldn't have to even pay them to protect their own kids. I suspect it would work a lot like Neighborhood Watch Programs. People are invested in their neighborhoods, so they get together and decide to work together for the betterment of their Community. It's proven that Neighborhood Watch actually works. I bet that if parents actually manned the doors to every school and eyeballed the kids coming and going every day, it would deter school violence.
It has also been suggested that some of those video games that kids are playing are pretty dang violent. I heard one military officer who train men and women for Special Forces Ops say that some of the combat videos the kids are playing are virtually no different than the training videos they use. It is one person killing another person via a cyber connection. It is all about the mindset. They use those "games" to prepare those soldiers to kill people by having them do it in a "game" first. And so do our kids. You tell me what the "real" problem is here. I think it is the fact that these kids have already killed hundreds of times via video game before they fired off the first round in a real shooting incident. But that is just me. Seems like the answer is actually taking away the video game for everyone but Special Forces... who are actually training to kill people.
image found on facebook... before I fell off that wagon.
Or would it be that I am now on the wagon? It is rather confusing....
When I was a kid, if I had seen a gun laying out in full view, my mouth would have formed a huge "0" and I would have backed away. Now, it's a symbol of honor on the streets if you're a kid carrying a gun. And if videos don't influence kids, WHY is so much money spent on a short TV commercial for Happy Meals at McDonalds?
ReplyDeletePeople always have been, always will be the problem. Let's move on.
Deletefan furking tastic robin! beautiful...thanks for posting facts, not hysteria.
ReplyDeleteThanks Chris. I am really tired of the preaching on this one. It's beginning to feel like Roseanne Barr and her infamous "whoever talks loudest wins" argument. Or whoever goes on the longest. Or creates the most noise. How about start making sense? That would be nice (for a change).
DeleteGun control is totally political and bears little relationship to reality. The USA is not the UK or other nations settled in a different manner. America was a vast wilderness where firearms were necessary for hunting, if Europeans were to sustain a foothold in North America.
ReplyDeleteIf you are a memeber of the Far Left, or if you are uniformed, you could argue the plight of the Native Americans, animal rights, and school shootings. However, that is a slippery slope and tantamount to sticking one's head in the sand. That is purely an emotional argument, with no basis in fact. We would then have to re-visit the ancient empires like Rome and Greece to see if we could correct past ills with new legislation as we bring history into the 21st century. For the Far Left, there is another agenda: To make us sheep subject to government rule.
If our representatives and politicians really cared about our children, they could promote some reasonable controls. However, the Far Left cannot be trusted to stop there without destroying the Second Amendment. For example, they could discuss making smaller clips on weapons, since 100 rounds of ammunition is unnecesary to protect oneself. They could discuss banning AK 47s for the same reason. However, we all know that would be the first step toward repealing the second Amendment.
How about this? Make sure guns can't get into the hands of the mentally unstable or those with a criminal past. They won't suggest that because Far Left wackos like ACLU lawyers will file federal suits alleging discrimination.
There is only one way to solve the problem: Change the culture of America to one of common sense. Today, a man arrested for traveling alone in an HOV lane on a highway is alleging that since a corporation is considered a "person" (as Mitt Romney accurately stated) under American law, he had the right to travel in the High Occupancy Vehicle lane since he was carrying corporate papers with him.
This stupidity is why we presently have the culture none of us are enjoying. Inmates file recreational lawsuits every day because they don't like the shape of their pie for dessert or can't sell drugs from their prison cells. These cases cost taxpayers about $250,000 to defend, last years in the courts, and if appealed, can run another $500,000 of taxpayer funds to defend. This is Far Left lunacy.
Only when Moderate Democrats and Moderate Republicans wake up will the escalating violence in our country be controlled. Until then, enjoy your smaller paychecks, while our shepherd government plays the uninformed public like sheep.
I fear that while we are busy dancing to the fiddle or arguing these ridiculous cases that you have systematically pointed out, someone with a political agenda might actually repeal the 2nd Amendment. They do have an agenda as I have pointed out above. Take away the guns and very bad things happen. Of course, many people won't notice because they will still be filing lawsuits about their shape of their pie.
DeleteI should have noted that you noted the agenda, too. Everyone is aware of the agenda...
DeleteMental health care - health care, period - is one of my big causes, as you well know. But beyond that, I'm so, so grateful that Jeremy didn't get into the video game craze beyond Mario Bros. and bopping alligators on the head. The others go far beyond entertainment, and completely seduce a player before desensitizing him ....
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, Mary. And I love how you said it. The games completely seduce a player before desensitizing him. Obviously, not all games are bad, but there are specific ones designed to train people to kill. I really think that if they are using those games to train Special Forces to kill people, it isn't wise for our young people to be playing them. I don't think that is a great leap to connect those dots.
DeleteThe important thing to note here is that you are involved enough in your kid's life that I think you would have pulled the plug on uber-violent video gaming. Why? Because I think you would have been aware of what you were seeing.
I think parents need to know about these games and decide what they are going to do about it. Education is the answer. Not banning. Because...
The question then becomes: do we need the government to ban these games? Have parents lost control? You see, it then becomes a whole new issue. Every time you ban anything you are losing a freedom. In this case, it is saying that parents have lost the ability to actually parent. And that may be true. We need the government to do the job for them.
It is why I hate the idea of banning anything. It is like saying that we cannot think. Cannot do. We need the government to do all of it for us. Live our lives. Parent our kids. ::Once you get started banning things, everything is up for grabs.::
And I've grown sick of politicians full stop. Some of the things they do just makes my skin crawl.
ReplyDeleteBut, hey, there's also good news. I just visited my friend-n-colleague Shoes and I saw your name. So you like Elvis and you like Shoes (and high heels, I'm sure).... Well, what more does a Blue guy like myself need to know? ;)
Hey, Grumpy Me, thanks for following. I will check out your blog when I get home. I love Elvis and Shoes. I love high heels in theory. For a short time in practice. LOL.
DeleteI love high heels, too. Just don't ask me to wear them... ;)
DeleteYou hit it precisely on the head. This is exactly why my Jewish friends are anti-gun control. They know what a danger it is to give up your ability to defend yourself.
ReplyDeleteYep. I would imagine all Holocaust survivors get this one.
