I guess I was overly ambitious. Threw too many balls into the air and now I'm desperately reigning them in trying to get a handle on this migraine thing. In the process, I've pretty well dropped everything in favor of lying about (literally or figuratively). Mostly literally. Turns out that doesn't really work either, so I'm still searching for balance. There's that word again.
So, in the name of righting my ship, I'm trying to get back on some sort of even footing. And that means picking up things I put down like blogging. And getting back to Battle of the Bands. Because right now I'm just rattling around in this house in danger of becoming a ghost...
And that leads us to our song for this battle: Ghost In This House. Our contenders are Shenandoah (the original) and Alison Krauss (the cover). It's up to you to decide who does it better!
Please vote for the version of this song you prefer. If you want to get into the Ins and Outs of why you like one better than the other... I LOVE long comments!

I hate hearing about your health difficulties. What a burden to deal with. Glad to hear things are improving a bit and hope your health trend continues in that direction. Yes, balance is essential for any of us.
ReplyDeleteI remember hearing this song before, but never these two versions. It's a nice song and a good one concerning what you've been dealing with lately.
Krause's version was so mournful and spare. I'm a Krause fan but I also like Shenandoah. In this case I prefer the fuller slightly faster-paced version by Shenandoah.
Glad to have you back Robin. Please stay with us and try to keep posting stuff.

I hate hearing about your health woes, too. I can only imagine how frustrating it is when you want to write or blog, and can't even think because of a brain-rattling migraine. I hope you see some recovery soon. Or balance, I guess.
ReplyDeleteI like Krause's voice, but her version's a little too slow for me. Like Arlee (oh no, we agree!) I like the pace of Shenandoah's better. Give my vote to them.
A tough decision. I don't LOVE one version more than the other, so I'm going with the vocalist. That means I vote for Allison Krauss. I'm so sorry about your migraines. Mine have been better lately. You've probably tried every medication around. The one my doctor gave me is a one-shot nasal spray, and it worked like magic.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
I really like Shenandoah's version just a little bit more. Please give them my vote. Hope you're feeling better soon!

ReplyDeleteI'm at least glad to know that you're feeling well enough to join us in BOTB again. Keep up that meditating and I'll pray for ya before my session today.
Yep, I'm gonna vote for SHENANDOAH also. When Alison first started singing I thought she'd get my vote but it was a bit too slow and kind of started to drone on.

Shenandoah was too twangy for me. I really loved Alison Krauss and her voice is so strong and it fits with the theme more. I hope you can find some easement and wish the Dr's could do more for you. I'm glad the dizziness is better. I wonder if they are not all related thinking of my friend who has had similar experiences.
ReplyDeleteBased on the "which one broke through to my conscious thought through NFL Red Zone" test, I'll take Allison.
ReplyDeleteHey Robin, I'm so sorry to hear that you're still battling the migraines. That has to be so frustrating. Hoping you'll be totally healthy real soon!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great song! I never heard it before and I love it. Alison Krauss' version was just a little too slow for me. I loved Shenandoah's original. Their version is more relatable, to me anyway. I felt the lyrics more with their version so please give my vote to them.
Great battle. Feel better, my friend!

Balance. It seems like something that should be happening naturally, but I think it takes practice. I'm glad to hear your ear is better...hate to hear you're having migraines. My family gets those, so I know how wicked they can be.
ReplyDeleteI like Alison's version better here-the sparser arrangement works better for me with this song.
ReplyDeleteGlad you feel better-I forget if I already shared this but I had some vertigo issue a couple months back-the doctor said something about crystals in the ears (common and natural but sounded like alien spores to me), and that was aggravating-I can only imagine what a full blown balance issue is like.
However, I continue to pray that you find migraine relief.

Re: Your health. I'm glad to hear you are starting to feel a little better. It seems so many of us have been having a hard time lately, be it mental or physical health or something else. As you may have noticed, I was away for awhile also, but I'm trying to work my way back.
ReplyDeleteRE: This battle.
Great song selection. I was of two minds who to go with. I like to give the cover version a fair shake, and I though I would go that way because I love famale vocalists more often than male vocalists, but the Shenandoah version was really good so I have to give them my vote.
Robin, Saying a prayer for you to feel better soon, my friend. Allison Krauss' soft vocals won me over instantly. So give my vote to her!
ReplyDeleteI like both versions. I'm going to go with Allison Krause for the vote though! I hope this isn't too personal to say here, but I was getting awful headaches like crazy and then I had an emergency hysterectomy. They went away. Not recommending a hysterectomy, just wondering if your doctor has maybe searched for a link to female challenges with those headaches? Worth checking into, if not. Hoping you are migraine free soon, regardless!
ReplyDeleteShenandoah may have created a nice song here, however Allison has one of those voices that is very pleasing to my ears. Most songs she sings sounds wonderful and this is no exception and she gets my vote.
ReplyDeleteHope you feel better soon. I have been MIA for a month now due to health , headaches and work.
ReplyDeleteAllison has an amazing voice! I love the duets she did with Robert Plant. I play them regularly. Shenandoahs version is great but i still go with Allison.
