S IS FOR SUMMER

For each letter of the A to Z, I'm going to give you a KEYWORD. You post in the comments a song with that word in the title. I will give you one to start (along with a video). If you like, you can go to YouTube and embed your video in the comments, so that readers can also listen to your song. No repeats and only post one song so that everyone can participate. If you're just brimming with songs, come back in a few days and lay it on me! If you want to see who else is participating in the A to Z click here.

You guys did great with yesterday's word: Rain. Here are the songs you thought of with Rain in the title:

Mary: Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head by BJ Thomas and Rainy Days and Mondays by The Carpenters and Rain Is A Good Thing by Luke Bryan
Rosey: Fire and Rain by James Taylor and Have You Ever Seen The Rain by CCR
Michele: Who'll Stop The Rain? by CCR and Let It Rain by Eric Clapton

Ericka: Make It Rain by Ed Sheeran
Jeffrey: Mandolin Rain by Bruce Hornsby and the Range

If you can think of more songs from previous letters and WANT to post them now, feel free to go back and add them:)

It's a new day and a new letter!

What is the KEYWORD?

You can use any word with summer as the root word. Like this:

I present to you....Summertime by Kenny Chesney.

You can comment with a song or embed the video by copy/pasting the code in the search bar. Thanks for playing along!

    1. Michele, when I was a kid we had a stereo system with a record player, cassette player, and 8-track player. I imagine my parents bought it when cassettes were just becoming a "thing," records were still played, and 8 tracks were mostly on the way out (but not quite). Anyway, we still had a quite a few 8 tracks in our house (since we had a means to listen to them). My mom had a compilation one of "old" songs that I rather liked. This song was one of the songs on that 8 track. Whenever it would come on, I remember (quite vividly) grabbing up the hairbrush (aka microphone) to sing and dance around the room with the exuberance, if not talent, that only a young girl can (or will). Good memories.

Just a question: does it make you a little bit sad? I'm not sure why it has this effect on me, but it does...

    2. To some degree it does. I agree with you, it's hard to explain.

    1. I loved this soundtrack. Grease was the first movie I saw with my friends, and so it holds a special place in my heart. Stockard Channing really nailed it as Rizzo. I like her, particularly, in this song.

  12. GIRL WONDER, I was sure that it would be "S Is For Sun". So much for your psychic ability rubbing off on me, eh?

But then YOUR OWN psychic ability may be waning too, because I'll bet you were certain I'd use a Beach Boys song, weren't ya?

Nope. Not this time. THIS is one of my very, very favorite songs about Summer, and oddly enough, it's titled...

    1. Sun and summer are not that far away from one another. There are lots of "S" words, so I'm going to say that even though you missed the target, you hit the barn.

I actually have given up on predicting what song you will choose. Van Morisson has featured heavily. But, The Beach Boys does seem like a reasonable guess (now that you mention it). I hope someone else jumps on that.

As for this song (now that I've heard it), I can see why it's a favorite for you. It describes your life in the 70s in LA. In point of fact, you could've written it.

      Delete
    2. Well, there went MY first choice, lol!

      Delete
    3. Exactly! It's pretty much a spot-on description of my Summer days, prior to becoming an adult and having to work through Summer rather than body-surf and girl-watch through it. (I even had a CB radio in my maroon, 1970 fastback Mustang... until the high nurse ran a stop sign, crashed into it and totaled it for me.)

I've been lucky in that so far every song I've wanted to use in this 'A To Z' Songfest Blogfest has still been available to me when I got here.

Next "Summer Breeze" by Seals and Crofts came to mind. This is a nice summer song.

    2. This guy is (in my opinion) a great songwriter but never seemed to make the cut. Not sure if he's had others cover his stuff-sometimes that's all a songwriter needs to make a good living.

      To do list:

      1) Write a song
      2) Get it on the next Taylor Swift record
      3) Retire

    1. I'm not sure how you manage to tap into my irrational fears... but sharks is one of them. I blame that one on the movie Jaws. Realistically, I know that the likelihood of being bitten by a shark... not realistic. Particularly now that I refuse to venture farther into the ocean than my ankles (again, due to irrational fear of sharks). But, this is NOT my favorite video. In fact, as soon as I saw the blood in the water, I knew it was going to give me nightmares. So, thanks, I guess;)

On the funny side, have you ever heard Bill Engvall's Here's Your Sign? One of the bits includes a fellow with a "shark bite suit." Hilarious stuffs.

  23. I'm not too late, am I? I just barely got home, but here you go.

Fun story: this guy opened for a fairly big band I was seeing a while back. I actually enjoyed his set a lot more than the headliner, so after the show I went up to him and told him he was awesome and asked for a signed copy of his CD. He was really surprised. He was like, really? You really liked it? You actually want me to sign it? I guess he wasn't used to hearing praise. It was oddly humble of him. Cool guy and great musician.

    2. All things considered, I liked the Canon Blue song better. I'm particularly partial to the line "I won't make you tired." That resonated with me. I've been considering diving back into the dating pool, and yet... Most people make me really tired. Just exhausted really. I suppose it's because they have expectations and lives and they're trying to fit someone new into theirs. But, worse than that, it's the emotional stuff that takes a physical toll. So, I'd really like to meet someone who doesn't make me tired. Maybe that would be a sign that it's worth pursuing.

This Summer. You really dance to that? Do you do that standing still dancing accompanied by a bounce? I'm trying to picture it. That was a really mellow song to my way of thinking... ;)

      Delete
    3. Canon Blue writes some great lyrics, and I love that line too. Hell, there are days my wife makes me tired as hell, and I'm sure vice versa. Funny how that works.

So you know, this is what happens when I spend all day out and then come home and post something last minute while tired. I posted the original, not the remix, which I feel is way better. And, you know, danceable. I imagine the only people that dance to the original are emo and just kind of sway side to side awkwardly while waiting for death, or whatever emos do.

    4. Okay, this makes much more sense. I can actually see someone picking up their feet when this one comes on... as opposed to swaying to the beat, waiting for death to make a pick-up.

  24. See what happens? When I arrive late, all the great songs are taken. But I have a favorite version of Sly and the Family Stone's Hot Fun in the Summertime...it's part of Pee Wee Herman's medley...you know that is the kinda gal I am, right?
