P IS FOR PLEASE

For each letter of the A to Z, I'm going to give you a KEYWORD. You post in the comments a song with that word in the title. I will give you one to start (along with a video). If you like, you can go to YouTube and embed your video in the comments, so that readers can also listen to your song. No repeats and only post one song so that everyone can participate. If you're just brimming with songs, come back in a few days and lay it on me! If you want to see who else is participating in the A to Z click here.

Before I proceed with the list from yesterday, here's the health update: I'm feeling somewhat better today. Fingers crossed for continued improvement. :)  If you want to vote on Battle of the Bands, go back to M is for Man.

You guys did great with yesterday's word: Over. Here are the songs you thought of with Over in the title:

Michele: Over, Under, Sideways, Down by The Yardbirds and Over My Head by The Fray
Ericka: It's Not Over by Daughtry
Andrea: When It's Over by Loverboy
Alex: Overture 1928 by Dream Theater
Stephen T. McCarthy: Over the Rainbow by Judy Garland
Holli: Hand Over Fist by Rush
Pinku-Sensei: All Over The World by ELO
Rosey: Over The River and Through The Woods
Mich: All Over You by Live
Debbie the Doglady: Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon and Garfunkel
D.G. Hudson: It's Over by Roy Orbison
Rebecca: Over You by Miranda Lambert
Mary: Head Over Feet by Alanis Morissette and Over You by Daughtry
LC: It's Over by Boz Scaggs
Birgit: Over There by James Cagney
Arlee: Over and Over by The Dave Clark Five
John Holton: Over The Aisles to America by The Champions of the Seas
CW: Over You by Gary Puckett and the Union Gap
Marcy: Over Now by Alice In Chains
JEN Garrett: (I'm Looking Over) My Dead Dog Rover
Robin (yes, me again): Come Over by Kenny Chesney

If you can think of more songs from previous letters and WANT to post them now, feel free to go back and add them:)

It's a new day and a new letter!

What is the KEYWORD?

You can use variations, such as pleases, pleased, or pleasing.

If you're a fan of Soundtracks, Andrea over at Maybe it's just me... is doing her A to Z on them. Ironically, I think our posts have a possibility of colliding today. I first discovered this song on the Pretty In Pink soundtrack (notice it's also a "P"). I wore out that cassette tape. The last song on the soundtrack was Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want by The Smiths. The song is a bit blue, but then I tend to be a bit blue, too. So, it works out. As it turned out, about two decades later another movie decided to use this gem (500 Days of Summer). That is the movie featured in the clips set to the song *I still love* featured below. So... drum roll... I present to you.... Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want by The Smiths.

And, this one is for Birgit who loves dancing and movies and has tried valiantly to play along with my Song Game (and has done much better since she's started working her movie knowledge into her strategy here). This was not in the movie 500 Days of Summer, but it was intended to promote the movie... sort of. Anyway, it's awesome and I think she, and other lovers of dance, will like it. Sadly, there is NO connection to the letter "P."

You can comment with a song using or embed the video by copy/pasting the code in the search bar. Thanks for playing along!

Special thanks to Arlee Bird and the A to Z team who make this possible!

    1. That Pink song is extremely twisted (as so many are), but that one takes it to new heights.... which made the Dave Loggins song super sweet in juxtaposition.

  4. Aaaaaaaah! Yes, of course that song was going to be my pick today from my soundtrack choice today. Thanks for the shout out! Let's see, I guess the next not so logical choice is Please Mister Please by Olivia Newton-John! ;) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3007OXu2dNc

  5. Not my first choice, but there are no Rush or Dream Theater songs with please in the title. (Plenty of P songs - The Pass and Puppies on Acid come to mind.)

    1. James Brown was from Augusta, Georgia. I lived in Augusta for quite a while. My aunt and uncle lived there longer. My aunt had a good friend who worked for James Brown. This friend says he was fond of spontaneously doing his famous split right there in the office. One day he did it and couldn't get back up. That was the last time they saw him do the split. Now I'm wondering he said, "Please please please" while he was down (and out).

  13. "Please and Thank You" I can't believe I'm using a song from Barney the Dinosaur, but this catchy tune is probably the only good thing that came out of that show. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3CgwV3o7AM

  18. Lee mentioned guilty pleasures in his comment. Here is one of mine. As an angsty teenager there wasn't much more appealing than The Violent Femmes. They plucked that painful string in my heart that is mostly discordant and unwilling to bend. Turns out they still do.

    2. Violent Femmes used to be one of my favorite groups. I haven't heard anything by them in many years. Nice to hear again. I saw them in concert shortly after I moved to L.A. I thought they were great. My wife at the time went to the bathroom and fell asleep on a toilet. She was so out of it that I think she must have been on drugs at the time. It was kind of a farewell date for us anyway as she was in the process of leaving me at the time. This song would have been appropriate for me at the time I guess, but now looking back I'm better off for her having left.

Arlee... It's funny how a song can take you back to a moment. This song. That moment. Even when a relationship breaking is best in the long run, while it's happening it sure does hurt.

  19. Oh thank you for the shout out and yes I Love that video! I wish the old fashioned musical would come back because Zoe would be great in it. Levitt is pretty good but I can see she is better. Oh that makes me dream:) the song that pops into my head is Please, please make by the Beatles and Please Release me by Engelbert Humperdink (gotta love that name)
