SHINE

Every year Leanne over at From Chaos Comes Happiness chooses a word instead of a resolution to live her New Year by, and that makes more sense to me than resolutions.  I just about always break those.  For the last couple of years I haven't been so great with my words, either, but I have at least tried to hold them close to my heart as Talismans.  Last year I chose two: The Art of Allowing and Grace.  I readily admit that I fumbled with both often enough, but I did try to remember these two things when life did its thing.

As everyone is well aware, a new year is rolling around, and that means it is time to dig out a new word to embrace it.

Having thought long and hard about this, I have settled upon SHINE.  We have no control over outside forces, all we can do is shine with what we are given.  Given that outside forces always seem to be changing, challenging, and are completely outside our circumstance, just letting go of that is a good place to begin.  Accepting that the internal stuff is where you have the ability to make the difference and exert some change of your own.  And SHINE.

For those who are interested, I actually settled on this word when I was listening to this song.  We all have choices.  One of them is shining.

  1. Good word. It suggests that we are in control of what the world sees in us and from us. Bloom where you are planted and all that. Take care.

    1. I try to choose a word that is actually a challenge for me given what I see coming in any given year. I need a Talisman or something to ground me when I feel myself going to dark places. As you said, this word embraces the attitude I want for 2013.

    1. Aw, Chris, that is so sweet. I think I shine sometimes and sometimes I just want to shine. However, I am going to hold this word close, and every time it feels like I am doing less shining and more wanting, I am going to actually shine. It is all a brain game after all:)

  5. A perfect word! Your heart shines when you write, as does your intellect. Your spirit shines even when life does "its thing." Real life rears its ugly head in many ways; it's up to us to shine despite it all, to let our gifts and talents and beauty radiate through all the nonsense that tries to get in our way ....

  6. I don't shine. I kinda slink and shuffle with various joints raising a chorus of pops and creaks. I don't think "slink", "shuffle" or "creaks" sound like words to live by. Now I've got to think. . . . And thinking gives me a headache.

  7. Oh you are all so with it with your inspirational words and all and I still feel a little out of it, but I'll jump back in with both feet and see what happens...
