I'm going to be honest. I nearly sat this edition of BoTB out. Things are still pretty crazy here, so when I get downtime, the internet is not my go-to place for relaxation. I tend to scroll through my FB wall for about ten minutes on my phone and call it done.
Mom is still recovering, albeit slowly. It will be another two weeks or so before she is cleared to put all of her weight on the bad leg. If the X-ray comes back indicating the bone isn't healing, it will be longer than that. So, I'm praying that she heals well. We are still doing rehab, though from this point on we'll be going to rehab rather than the rehab person coming here.
Recently, two songs by the exact same name played back to back from my playlist. And that got me to wondering if I couldn't do a little twist on BoTB and use them here. Given the state of my life, I decided that YES, YES I CAN.
The song is called Broken. I find that to be particularly relevant given that my life is revolving around my mom's broken leg. Ha! Like I said, they are not the same song. Two totally different songs that have the same name. One of them was popular on the radio, while the other wasn't. Will that give one song an advantage over the other? Possibly. Familiarity does seem to play a role in these things. However, many of you don't actually listen to the radio (or stopped at a certain decade), so both of these might be new to you. In any case, I'm just running with it and seeing what happens.
We'll look at them chronologically. The first appeared in 2004 on Everlast's album, White Trash Beautiful. It was NOT a single for them. Point of fact, none of the songs on this album charted in the US. So, I will be surprised if any of you have heard this before. Let me know in the comments!
Lifehouse released the album Who We Are in 2007. Broken charted in the US in 2008. I suspect this will be familiar to some ears out there. But, familiarity doesn't necessarily mean better. Let the game begin!
Please vote for the version of this song you prefer. If you
want to get into the Ins and Outs of why you like one better than the
other... I LOVE long comments!

the Bands fun, check out the other BOTB bloggers to vote on their

Everlast, hands down.
ReplyDeletePraying the bone settles right. I'm sure you both want life to get back to normal.
I'll go with Lifehouse :)
ReplyDeleteI hope your mom's leg heals properly and with great speed.
Wow, I had completely forgotten about Everlast, and that gravelly voice of his. Not a huge fan. Lifehouse, meanwhile, I remember quite a bit. Including that song. Brings back great memories of high school (God, that was so long ago).
ReplyDeleteOne vote for Lifehouse.
I hope your mom is up and motoring soon.
Wishing your mom a speedy recovery! I've never heard either of these songs before, but the second one, by Lifehouse, resonated a bit more. It struck me as a bit more heartfelt.
ReplyDeleteI prefer Lifehouse's version, mostly because I like the singer's voice better.
ReplyDeleteHope your mom feels better son.
Hope your mom gets a good report.
ReplyDeleteI've never been a fan of Lifehouse, so the Everlast one sounded better to me.
I thought both were pretty good, but I really liked Everlast's gravelly voice. Speedy recovery wishes for your mother!

Too much gravel to that EL cut. I'll take Lifehouse and give a prayer for better days ahead.
ReplyDeleteIt will take time for your mom and I know you must be exhausted. At least she is on the mend, slowly but surely. As for the battle, I'll take Lifehouse because I don't care for the gravely voice of the former. I bet there are people who love that type of voice but it's not for me plus I like the overall softness of the second one better
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to see your BOTB post. Missed you! Hang in there. You sound better than last time you posted here.
ReplyDeleteBoth these songs are really good. The style and performance of the Lifehouse song is more to my taste so that's the one I'm going to vote for. Either song is a winner though.
I have a few same title, different songs Battles in my line-up. Probably do one match up some time this summer. So many Battles in my line-up that I don't know if I'll ever get to them all.
Get back on track and stay with us. Miss you when you're gone.

GIRL WONDER, I'm happy that you joined us for this round of BOTB!
ReplyDeleteBoth songs have a good beat and you can tap dance to them. (Although I could be mistaken.)
Actually, in the first one, the guy sounds to me like he's doing a Tom Waits impersonation. The second song was a bit more melodic and pleasing to my ears. So, LIFEHOUSE gets my bote, and lifeboat gets my house.

Robin,
ReplyDeleteFirst, it's great to have you back. I hope things with your mother improves and life gets back to normal for you. I haven't heard either of these songs. That being said, your second song has a soothing, quiet quality to the melody and vocals to match, so give my vote to Lifehouse. Have a good week, my friend and thanks for the intro!

It's good news that your life has settled a little and that your mother is doing better. I know how that goes as I'm still recovering with my arm.
ReplyDeleteNeither of the songs would be something this old broad would listen to but if you held my feet to the fire and I had to choose, I would go with nunber 2.
Hi Robin,
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that your mom is on the mend. I've had so many bone surgeries so I know all about being non-weight-bearing and laid up. It sucks! The rehab is the best thing. Is she doing aqua-therapy? Try to get her in the rehab pool as soon as possible. The water will catapult her recovery.
As for your battle: really nice! I like both of these songs and I wasn't familiar with either. Tough choice but I'm going with Everlast in this one. Although I could've just as easily said Lifehouse. Both songs are really good.

I'm so sorry to hear about your Mom, Robin. I hope she continues to be on the mend. I'm going with Everlast. Lifehouse was way too slow for me.
ReplyDeleteI have a new website: Elsie Amata
Lifehouse gets my vote, I didn't like the vocals on Everlast
