Well, in my trolling of YouTube for Christmas songs I ended up listening to and saving novelty songs. I wasn't sure (at the time) that was the direction I wanted to go, but today I have no choice. I've been afflicted with a kick me in the head migraine behind my right eye that makes death look appealing as the next viable option. I keep telling myself it well let up before I get serious about that "death thing," because... well, because I've lasted for longer than this with the death grip migraine and I'm still here. Cranky as hell, but here.
So, with a pounding head I present to you Battle of the Bands.
And what you're getting to vote on is two different novelty songs I've saved to my Favorites about a week ago (before this atrocious migraine).
The songs are Santa Claus is Watching You and Bad Little Boy by Ray Stevens. I think the video is flat-out distracting for both videos. So, I advise not watching it. I really like both of these because they are so darn funny. I don't think you'll vote for either song because of its stellar guitar work or instrumentation or any of the things that often sway battles. This will simply be a vote for the song you like best. Is most entertaining. Made you laugh hardest. I think you get the idea. So, sit back and enjoy.
First up is Santa Claus is Watching You:
Next up is Bad Little Boy:
So, which of these tickled your funny bone most? You probably noticed that no matter how you slice this cake it's a win for Ray Stevens, but which Ray Stevens song? Is Santa Claus the peeper your favorite or is it the song about the bad little boy???
Please vote for the version of this song you prefer. If you want to get into the Ins and Outs of why you like one better than the other... I LOVE long comments!

Musically, I prefer Santa Claus is Watching you...even though I found it kind of creepy. That was probably because I watched the video...the other one I just found silly.
ReplyDeleteWell, they're both supposed to be silly. Ha!
DeleteMy musical interest in novelty songs was huge when I was a kid--love 'em! Not so much now, but I can still appreciate the good ones. Ray Stevens is the King of Novelty Songs--the guy is a musical comic genius.
ReplyDeleteI thought this would be very difficult, but in the end it was easy for me. I definitely prefer "Santa Claus is Watching You". The second one was cute, but didn't grab me with fun gloves like the first one.
Merry Christmas! Ho-ho-ho-hum...
Arlee Bird
Tossing It Out
Yes, we must choose the one that grabs us with fun gloves!
DeleteI know you advised not to watch the videos, but I tapped into the second one. I didn't know the song - that's my excuse. Unfortunately, I found the cartoons funnier than the song! Oops, and now I'm probably getting nuthin' for Christmas either, (smile).
ReplyDeleteThat settled, I do love Ray's "Santa Claus is Watching You". If so, he knows I read all of the cartoons of the second one. The first one gets my vote.
I hate to hear you're experiencing another migraine. Thank you for posting a battle anyway. We love our Christmas battle, huh? Time flies - might as well work on next year's in a week or two (smile).
Dixie
Yep, Santa knows all because he's watching you!
DeleteI'd forgotten just how rotten Dennis really was.
ReplyDeleteThink I'll go with the first one though.
That Dennis!
DeleteGotcha down for the first one.
I'm gonna go with 'The Bad Little Boy'. I really hate to think if the jolly old elf as a peeper. Saw him just this past weekend and he really is a nice guy! ;-)
ReplyDeleteI know the whole idea of Santa peeping is creepy. Since I haven't met him in a long time I'll take your word for it;)
DeleteThese both are fun songs! Ray Stevens is so funny. My vote is going to the first one Santa Claus is Watching You. I liked the second one but not as much as the first one.
ReplyDeleteFun battle!
Michele at Angels Bark
Glad you liked them both. This battle was intended to just be FUN.
DeleteI don't think Santa was the only one watching her. Well, obviously not.
ReplyDeleteAnd when Santa found out someone else was checking up on his chick, well, who do you think called the police? She seemed to be digging it.
I believe my vote shall go to the first song. Perhaps winning the BOTB will give him some solace as he sits in jail for Christmas.
Yes, winning the battle will surely make his spirits rise as he sits in the joint.
DeleteI don't mind hearing a novelty song now and then, but none of them will ever make the Martin 10. If I can't write in Grandma got run over by a reindeer, I'll take the Bad Boy one.
ReplyDeleteI'll make a note of that for next Christmas!
DeleteI vote for Santa Claus Is Watching You. I find it more amusing. I've always liked Ray Stevens. I pray for you and for relief from the pain you suffer. When you feel well enough, please change my listing in the participants from WOMEN: WE SHALL OVERCOME to Janie Junebug Righting & Editing.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Thanks for the prayers Janie. I need 'em!
DeleteWow! I don't think I have heard either of these songs before! Hope you get to the root of your migraines and make progress with something that helps combat them!
ReplyDeleteI think my migraines are primarily rooted in hormones, weather changes, and stress. Seems like one of these is always in play. Uggghh.
DeleteHi human, Robyn,
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you suffer with those awful headaches. I hope that you take it easy perusing all those videos. Please, just have some rest.
I cannot vote because I find both songs just awful to listen to.
Pawsitive wishes and doggy kisses,
Penny xx
Gotta love your honesty, Penny. Thanks for the well wishes!
DeleteOK I go with Santa Claus is watching you-It's creepy and Santa needs a restraining order but it is much funnier than the 2nd one. I can't stand it when people talk baby talk or with a lisp...makes me want to get my gun...if I had one. I couldn't even finish the 2nd one actually because I wanted to throttle him after 2 minutes so the first gets my vote. My friend, today, also said she is feeling a migraine coming on. I hope it will not stay too long
ReplyDeleteBirgit Get Your Gun! Well, that's valid voting reasoning if I've ever heard it!!!
DeleteThe first one is definitely funnier, in my opinion. The second one was a bit boring.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry you're suffering from such a killer migraine and hope you get some relief, soon.
You gotta vote the one you think is funnier!
DeleteI'm sorry that you are feeling bad. The weather has been miserable in Pennsylvania, and the early darkness makes me feel quite glum. I guess it's a good thing December comes with Christmas lights. Otherwise it might be the most depressing month of the year.
ReplyDeletePlenty of people really struggle with depression in December. I have to say that the length of this migraine has me questioning my sanity.... yikes.
DeleteNot really... but, I'm sure sick of it!
Delete"Santa Claus Is Watchin' You" reminded me of some of the greatest hits by The Coasters ("Yakety Yak" and "Charlie Brown"). "Bad Little Boy" was pretty funny, too... hell, you can't go wrong with Ray Stevens. I'm going to vote for "Santa Claus Is Watchin' You."
ReplyDeleteI love them all, John. It was hard to choose!
DeleteIs that the same guy who did "The Streak?"
ReplyDeleteNot a huge fan of novelty songs-I laughed more at "Bad Boy," so I am going with that.
Yes, the one and only!
DeleteGotta go with the one that gives you the chuckles!
I'm going to vote for the Bad Boy. It's too strangely different, and I loved Dennis the Menace.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about your migraines, Robin. Don't give up, not ever.
One place I lived they played Bad Little Boy regularly on the radio during the Christmas season. I always got a kick out of it.
DeleteI'll admit, I couldn't even make it through Bad Little Boy, or as he might call it, "Bad Widdle Buoy." Like Birgit, I just hate that kind of baby talk. On the other hand, I like the creepy idea of Santa Claus always watching you. If Santa saw me and heard the words that come out of my mouth he'd bring me a bar of soap and a wooden spoon to beat myself with. One vote for that one.
ReplyDeleteI hate to break it to you, but Santa already knows and ain't getting nuttin' for Cwistmas.
DeleteRobin, it's hard to not smile every time Ray Stevens sings. Both of these tunes are new-to-me, so thanks for the introduction. I think I'm giving my vote to Santa Clause is Watching You. Sorry to hear about the migraine. DH's former work pal's wife gets really bad headaches and found eating hamburger helps. I have no idea if her's are migraines, but this might be something to look into if you haven't already considered it. Oh well, just wanted to throw that out there for you because that's what friends are for. Good battle. Have a very Merry Christmas and remember Santa Claus is watching you, but not in a creepy kinda way. ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind thoughts. Got you down for Santa The Peeper;)
DeleteI really hate it when the battles are two different songs - but I do love me some Ray Stevens! I'm going going to give my vote to Santa Claus is Watching You, simply because it really was more of a song rather than just talking with background music. Hope you're feeling better!
ReplyDeleteThis is the first time I've ever done it. I just couldn't decide, Mary. And my migraine didn't allow me to pursue it further. Hopefully, the 15th will be better.
DeleteRay Stevens is underrated - he has comic talent and music chops. I've always been a fan (and I love Weird Al, too). It's a tough call but I have to give my vote to SANTA CLAUS IS WATCHING YOU. 'Cause he is...really...and it's creepy and I feel bad for you Robin...
ReplyDeleteGood news: the Easter bunny is not nearly as invasive.
(Hope you feel better and quick!)
GIRL WONDER, you know I love you like a first cousin. (Maybe we could just agree not to have any children?)
ReplyDeleteBut, I gotta be me - which means I gotta be at least 50% honest - and, I really have never much liked Ray Stevens. His comedy has always seemed forced to me and, at best, just mildly amusing. (It's hardly John Branyan and 'The Three Little Pigs'!)
I loudly applaud the concept (using two different Christmas comedy songs by the same performer), I just don't love the performer.
The first one was... OK.
The second one was actually funnier but I strongly feel that Ray Stevens was totally plagiarizing 'NUTTIN' FOR CHRISTMAS' by Stan Freberg. And Freberg (whom I like) is still way better.
Therefore, I am voting for CHEECH Y CHONG's 'SANTA CLAUS & HIS OLD LADY' - which is my favorite Christmas comedy skit anyway. (No? How about 'I YUST GO NUTS AT CHIRSTMAS' by Yogi Yorgesson? - I love that one, too.)
Alright, alright, I'll play by the rules and vote for Ray's rip-off of 'NUTTIN' FOR CHRISTMAS'.

POSTSCRIPT: It's way past time to start finding out what food you're allergic too. Sorry (1st Cousin Girlfriend), but this is a food allergy. I am CERTAIN about it. Forget the therapy and find a good nutritionist instead. Trust me on this one, Ms. Migraine.
I actually had Nuttin For Christmas in my Favorites list, BUT musically it's so much better than most novelty songs... well, I felt like it wouldn't end up being a very good battle.
DeleteSo, I went this route and it still ended up being pretty lopsided. So, there you go.
I have lots I could say about food allergy and diet, but I have other things to do today, so I won't.
Humorous Christmas tunes indeed! My vote is for Santa Claus is Watching You
ReplyDeleteRobin, Sorry you've been suffering from another killer migraine. Hope you feel better soon. Santa Claus is Watching You gets my vote. Bad Little Boy had that fingernails on the chalkboard affect on me. Take care of yourself, Robin.
ReplyDeleteJulie
Good to see you, Julie. You've been missed. Thanks for the well wishes and the vote in this round!
