HERE'S TO YOU THURSDAY

Yes, this is a HERE'S TO YOU post, but first I have to let you know how Battle of the Bands turned out. The Corrs took a strong lead in the beginning and never lost it. Surprise! The Corrs won it with 14 votes. I am not sure I was clear about my feelings on the Tim McGraw version. I said it wasn't country, or not that country. What I meant was that it wasn't country enough for country radio. So, to a country music listener... not country. To others, it probably sounded country, but not overly country. Did that make more sense? Anyway, many of you liked his version and 8 of you voted for it. Ryan Adams took a beating in this battle... and several of you called him wimpy. Only 2 of you voted for him, but at least he wasn't completely frozen out.

As for me, I don't care that much for The Corrs version. It's okay. I really like the Tim McGraw and Ryan Adams versions of this song... and would be hard-pressed to choose. Fortunately, I don't have to... because voting for either one wouldn't change anything.

So, let's get on with all of that stuff for YOU!

If you don't know what this HERE'S TO YOU stuff is about, let me explain.  This used to be a weekly event landing typically on Thursdays.  When I read your blogs or you say something in the comments that sparks my imagination (or I hear something and I think of you), chances are good I will click over to YouTube to find footage for you. In the old days you wouldn't have to reach back in your memory bank farther than one week. Now... all bets are off. It could be several weeks ago.

The best (or worst) part is that I am not going to explain why I chose "whatever" footage for each of you. If, you watch your footage and are scratching your head at the end, well that means I didn't do a very good job. However, all is not lost. You can email me at rarichards68@gmail.com and ask me what I was thinking when I chose that particular piece of footage off of YouTube and connected it to you. And then I will tell you. Then I will start sending up prayers that I haven't offended the crap out of whoever is on the receiving end of that email....lol. Because, honestly, I will tell you right now... I admire all of you enormously so I really hope that doesn't happen.

Also, this is not an exclusive venture by any means. I hope that you will take the time to watch ALL of the footage because I don't pick bad footage:-) I also hope that you might check out the blog of the person I dedicated the footage to because they are pretty darn awesome. If you haven't figured this out yet... I pick the footage based on something that you've written or something that I've gleaned from your personality. Think on that for a while... If you are having trouble watching the entire video (meaning it is being cut off on one side), click on it a couple of times and it will take you straight over to youtube. If you click on the four squares at the bottom corner of the video, it will enlarge it to fill your screen. The escape key will bring it back to normal size. The back arrow will bring you back to my page.

Now, let's get this PARTY STARTED!!!!

  1. Glad I didn't call Ryan Adams wimpy because then I'd have to watch that one...
And I think Southern rock is country, so there you go...

  2. This commercials were way too funny:) I like the clip you chose for Stephanie:) although if I did that when I was a teen I would not be here today

  3. The first one is the best birth control out there.
The first Office snippet is hilarious and sad. I remember going through a divorce and thinking, because so many people have been through it, I'd have no problem finding friends to support me. Wrong! It's pure hell, and none of my friends wanted to revisit it -- if only to help ease my pain. That was disappointing and eye-opening.

  4. The first commercial was very funny! Loved the song for Stephen! Now I'm a Miranda Lambert fan! Crazy Stupid Love was a great movie. Perfect choice for Brandon and Bryan!

  8. I love that second clip from Crazy, Stupid Love. What a wonderful movie that was!

  9. Alex ~ You crack me up.

Birgit ~ But it was a funny, funny scene.:)

Robyn ~ My family was very supportive of my divorce (as they didn't like my husband). I pretty much lost all of my friends due to my husband. Divorcing him mended some of those bridges, but not all. Divorce is a tough thing... even when it is the right thing for you. I am really sorry that your support network let you down.

Julie ~ I've liked Miranda Lambert from the beginning... welcome to the club! I need to watch Crazy Stupid Love again:)

LD ~ That seemed to be a chance recording... hilarious!

Dixie ~ I know what you mean!

    psychelen ~ Agreed!

OE ~ Yes, that was a fantastic movie:)

  11. >>... "This one is for all of you who called Ryan Adams wimpy (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!)"

    2:45 - 3:06

    >>... "This one is for Stephen T. McCarthy at StMcC Presents Battle of the Bands"

    Miranda Lambert - Woo-Hoo!
Never heard of her before but that was a great song and she made some great faces in the video! (Did she write the lyrics to 'Mama's Broken Heart'?) Wow! I think I'm in love. (You KNOW how gud that kould turn OW-t, right?)

GIRL WONDER, I don't know if you meant it this way, but that song seems to work on two levels. First of all, yes, of course I caught the reference to the Kennedys and Camelot. But the song could also seem to be referring to my 'I GOT THEM "BAD LUCK WITH WOMENS" BLUES' post.(???)

And speaking of that... seriously, was I right or was I double right? Didn't Jana look just like my Sister? Huh? Didn't she? Can you imagine the shock I felt when I suddenly realized that fact while sitting across from her in the restaurant on our first (and only) date?

Once again, you nailed it, GW.

    1. If I understood StephenSpeak you were referencing a place in the Ryan Adams song. I chose it because 1) It's one of my favorites, and 2) The line "such a little girl."

I originally chose the Miranda Lambert song after your BOTB post. Yes, the nod at the Kennedys and Camelot. But, then I was doubly pleased after reading your Stuffs post on the Bad Luck With The Womens, because it was also a nod to that. I really love it when that happens. The fact that you parsed out both meanings.... woohoo!

I meant to say something about that girl who looks like your sister. I swear that they could be twins. I gasped when I saw the picture of your sister after the picture of your "date." Creepy. I totally understand why you nixed that one in the bud. I dated a guy for a while who reminded me in many ways of my brother. As you can imagine, that relationship didn't go anywhere. Every time he kissed me I felt that "ick" feeling. He was a super nice guy, but it didn't work out. Like you, I never told him that I was just too done in by the comparison. In his case, it was more word choices and mannerisms than physical appearance, though they were both tall and thin... So, I tried to get past it, but nope. I can see why that was a One Date Wonder.

You need to brush up on your "StephenSpeak".

I was referencing a place in the video that "I" linked to.

  13. I still say the other Ryan Adams song performance was wimpy, but it was nice. This song was also nice and the performance was pretty, but if I listened to it too much I'd say it would become pretty boring for me.

Not to say anything bad about Ryan Adams, but so far I'm not overly impressed and I'm not going to seek out more more of his stuff. Besides, I'm pretty sure I have at least one of his CD's that I don't know where it is for the time being. Goes to show how impressed I was by that.

I'm glad the Corrs won since that's who I preferred. Oh, and just because Tim McGraw doesn't sound like prog rock or metal doesn't mean he's not playing rock. Country nowadays is mostly rock--anyone who saw the CMA broadcast the other night could see and hear that.

    1. Well, if you decide you don't want that CD, send it to me! I'll take it:)

Country music goes wildly back and forth. It becomes more "rock-like" and then a grass-roots band or singer comes along and reminds everyone why liked country music from the start. Oh well. Life is a circle.

  15. I enjoyed all of those videos. I'm heading over to last week's post. I can't believe I missed my dedication!

  16. Yeah, I said he sounded wimpy, and I actually still stand by it. That's not really an insult, but his singing is just very subtle. I keep expecting him to build up to something and then just belt it out, but... he doesn't. So... kinda wimpy. :)

I love all of these clips. I've never actually seen Crazy Stupid Love. I just thought it was one of those really lame romantic comedies. I may have to reconsider that. And after this week's post, I still haven't gotten the shaft, so I'm holding out hope that my life still remains a country song in reverse!

  17. rosey ~ Thanks for stopping in:)

Chrys ~ Yeah, that sucks... it's like missing your own party!

ABFTS ~ I was overwhelmed with ideas after reading your post. I was going to try and narrow it down to only ONE, but then I re-thought it. I really liked the movie Crazy Stupid Love. It is a romantic comedy, but I wouldn't say a lame one... one of the better ones:) Didn't you just LOVE the song Backwards? That is one of the best B-sides ever.

As for Ryan Adams... I love his stuff when I am in a mellow mood. It is soothing to my soul. I love his voice and I like the mostly acoustic sound to his stuffs.

  18. I laughed so hard at both of the 1st 2. A lot of truth in #1 and I oftn wish I had the courage to do what the old lady did. She must have had bricks in that bag. LOL

  22. Late, but still much appreciated, I finally saw the video for your last Here's To You. Thanks you! I enjoyed it! But -- I REALLY enjoyed the video of the good lookin' Babe with the great legs and divine voice singing in church. ;)

In this one, I laughed at the fist one, thought the second one was cute but fake, and still think Ryan Adams is wimpy. ;) But StMc didn't know who Miranda Lambert was??? I'm glad you were able to indtroduce her to him. She's a great singer, and also has great legs. ;)

  23. Hi Robin,

Do you remember me? Yes? No? WTF? Anyhow, I'm very sorry I've not been visiting over the last three months. Major upheaval in my personal life.

Yes, I said I'd get a new computer as a priority when I moved. Then all the other priorities got in the way. Which means, I still do have the worst time getting your site to load up. I did manage to check out the first video, which makes me think a number of dudes should of worn condoms based on the supermarkets I frequent.

Lovely to see you and your Thursday altruistic posting.

    I'm outta' here....

    Gary :)
