Most of the ones I've seen in recent years are in NC. I've seen some crumbling abandoned ghost Stuckey's in West Texas and there may still be one in AZ along the 10, but that may be abandoned as well.

Since when I'm traveling I try to make my pitstops at the big truck stations like Pilot and such since they typically have bigger better restrooms and cheaper gas. So I'm no longer on the lookout for Stuckey's. And since it's my dime and not my father's, I don't go out of my way for pecan logs and divinity. Stuckey's was never known for nice clean restrooms and though you could get good pecan logs in the store you might find a nastier sort of log on a restroom visit there.

I'm thinking that Blackman might have also used the Stuckey's reference not only because of the prevalence of the chain on the highway, but also because of the musicality of the name itself. Stuckey's has better metrical quality than Denny's or Village Inn. Gosh, has anyone ever used either of those in a song lyric?

Arlee Bird
A to Z Challenge Co-host
Tossing It Out
Arlee Birdhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11663942782929929334noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8318801159753696568.post-43168300097258637802016-04-30T11:11:33.276-04:002016-04-30T11:11:33.276-04:00LEE, I could be all wet on this but I believe STUC...LEE, I could be all wet on this but I believe STUCKEY'S was a franchise of the South, so you undoubtedly saw more of them out Tennessee-way, and in those lower states.

There were a few here out West, because I remember passing some on our family road trips. I think we may have had a breakfast or two at a Stuckey's, but I didn't know nuttin' 'bout the pecan logs and divinity fudge.

It figures though that Bruce Blackman would mention a Stuckey's and not, say, Denny's or Village Inn, etc. Because Blackman is very much a Southerner. Remember his mention of "Ol' Miss" in his most famous song 'MOONLIGHT FEELS RIGHT'?

BTW, that last one I posted by THE VERY MOST? Ughh. I never heard of them before but the name seemed like a way to win "The Battle Of The Cold Nights". That was pretty bad though, and I wasn't taking that one seriously. I used to beg my dad to stop at Stuckey's when we would travel, but he never would because he knew what we wanted. ON the other hand, if my mother was in charge of the trip we would stop. She loved the divinity.

I haven't seen many Stuckey's on the roads I've traveled in recent times. There have been a few, but not like I used to see.

I did enjoy the Starbuck recording. Actually it did have some unique lyrics. I was just joking with you. Although I do prefer the version of same titled song by Nino and April over the Very Most. They were similar but the duo has such a classic late 50's early 60's sound.

Arlee Bird
A to Z Challenge Co-host
Tossing It Out
Arlee Birdhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11663942782929929334noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8318801159753696568.post-23981358863811951672016-04-29T16:10:23.196-04:002016-04-29T16:10:23.196-04:00Ziggy Stardust was my favourite album of his.

Apparently Blackman re-recorded the song later, or else he drastically altered the mix and added some string sounds. And it's the later version I like best, as this one sounds a bit dated with the heavy synthesizer sound throughout. I still like it though because I love Blackman's voice. There's a very unique quality to it.

And lyrically he doesn't do deep stuffs. The songs are mostly light and fun with extremely catchy melodies. I truly think he's a Pop music mastermind.

Here's one of his newer recordings that I really love, and I think you'll dig it, too. It's got a really neat "Old School" feel to it. And, hey, it mentions "STUCKEY'S". Don't tell me you've never eaten at a Stuckey's during any of your many road trips!

I love EVERYTHING about this song. But he's recorded so many great ones. Terrible that he's mostly unknown.

(Link...>>) JIM'S CAFE

OK, below I've posted...

"THE VERY MOST...
